Can someone tell me if this wheel is from a Spitfire and what year it would be from? Measures 16-1/8" across and came with a big box of Triumph parts.

Re: Identify this steering wheel, possibly Spitfir

It's similar to the wheel in my Spit, but it's flatter than my wheel and the base isn't the same. So, I'm thinking probably not Spitfire.

Re: Identify this steering wheel, possibly Spitfir

looks like the one on my '59 triumph 10 wagon (except for the color)

Hello Andrew,

from memory, I thought the Herald and Spitfire wheels had a lot more dish. Standard 8\10 is more likely?

I can double-check tonight when I get home, but I don't recall there being much of a dish on Herald or early Spitfire wheels (and it's kinda hard to get "perspective" in the image shown). And since it was posted by someone from the US (where only the Triumph 10 -- with its usually pale green or off-white wheel -- was sold), I surmised Herald or early Spitfire.

Although...early Sprite is also a possibility, I suppose. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Just goes to show I should NEVER work from memory at my age. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Looking at wheels from a Triumph 10, a Herald 948, a Herald 1200 and a Mk2 Spitfire, they all have about a 2" dish. Again, it's hard to tell from the photo, but that one does look to have a bit less of a dish, so ???? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Re: Identify this steering wheel, possibly Spitfir

This wheel does have about a 2" dish so most likely from a Spitfire. Thanks to all for your help.
