It's a caterpillar in a Korean sunflower!

Nasty critters ...
 
Oil filter is correct.
filter is designed to slide over a ported cage (offering structural support to the filter)
cage is suppose to be permanently fixed to the base of the cannister housing.
mine came out with the old filter (unrecognized) & went in the trash.

New filter collapsed & oil flow was restricted.
daughters 2008 Avalon made a 200 mile trip starved of oil.( but made it home)
she realized something was wrong.....but she is not an "ole car guy"
