Good Afternoon All,

After spending quite some time lurking and soaking up information, I now find myself in need of help. I have a 58 model TR3A (TS30431L) that I bought 6 years ago and have been enjoying immensely (takes me back to my high school days and the 63 TR3B that I drove then - 35 years ago).

Anyway, I have just completed restoring a 68 Mustang (wife's car) and am now contemplating tearing the Triumph down and re-doing it (The TR3 is in pretty good shape, but I just can't stand the Mustang "out-shining" it). Here's my questions:

1. The car has no Chassis or Body ID tags on it - have been gone since I bought the car. As stated earlier, the Commission No. is TS30431L, but the engine number is CT68216E. Am I correct in thinking that this is a late-model TR4 engine?

2. With no body/ chassis tags, can I get a certificate from British Motor Heritage Trust with the commission number alone, and would they even be able to provide much information without the other numbers?

The envelope please:
1. Commission No. is TS30431L would be a 66 TR4 engine.
2. You are correct, all you need is the commission number for your British Motor Heritage Trust. It will show the Car/Chassis #, Engine number, Body #, Specification LHD or RHD, Colour Exterior, trim, hood, Built Date, Date Despatched, Destination (Miami, New York) and Details of Equipment.

Or at least that the cylinder block is. Virtually everything else interchanges, so that tells you little or nothing about things like cylinder head, manifolds, carbs, flywheel, and so on. The front plate must have been changed to make it fit in your TR3A, etc.
 
Thats what that feeling was. Kept looking behind me all the rime at my computer as I felt someone was watching me. :laugh:

Butch - I bought my 1958 TR3A brand new in May - 50 years ago. My Comm. No. is TS 27489 LO, so your TR was built sometime in late February or early March, 1958. I have hundreds of photos of mine which could help you with the details.

Thanks Don, I'm sure I will need a bunch of help. And that car is BEAUTIFUL! It really makes me want to get to work on mine.
 
hi signman I would take a look at the differential there is a commission number (TS#)right on top of the pumpkin and there is also one on a little flat spot on the side of trans. If the numbers are the same, I would consider it to be those numbers.
