Literally.. My house got broken into today... Say bye-bye to about $10,000 worth of stuff... fortunately it can all be replaced. Luckily my wife, who is a stay at home mom, was out at the time.

Apparently the thieves had no class because the Triumph was untouched.
 
Uck that sucks.

Absolutely terrible news. I never felt so violated until I had things stolen from inside the house and my dollar values didn't begin to reach your numbers.
 
Very sorry to hear the news - hard to even imagine how it must feel. Hopefully the break in damage isn't too bad to add to the insult.
 
Sucks bigtime. This week I've been installing a security system in my barn/shop. You can never be too safe. Glad you weren't at home but they were probably watching for you to leave.
 
I'm sure that if they get caught, some sleaze bag lawyer will get them off anyhow. It will be your fault for having stuff.

Glad to hear that your family is OK.
 
Big time bummer. Sorry to hear. Glad nobody was
hurt, though.... and really cool the car is unscathed.
Guess it's a punch list for insurance, huh?

So sorry to hear this news. I know exactly how it feels having been down this road myself. Just be thankful it was only replaceable belongings and nothing more. Make your insurance claim and any necessary changes to your home so it does not happen again and then just move on.
 
I thought you'd be referring to the IRS! They took me for a lot more than $10,000! But that seriously is a major bummer. Being robbed is bad enough on a small scale, let alone having a house break-in with that much loss. Glad they left the Triumph alone though!
 
John, for future reference might I suggest the book "Cracking The Code" and the website www.losthorizons.com go to the intro first. You might find yourself saving lots of money, legally.

Just wondering - Have you tried this - how much did you save - & how many folks have ended up with huge back tax bills & lengthy court battles.

Ouch, I can sympathize. Some kids broke into my old house and stole about $800 worth of stuff, and it's a strange feeling. I didn't even realize anything was missing initially; I had to call the police back over to add to their report, to which they said that was no problem; folks who have had break-ins often don't notice all that's missing until much later. Hope all works out.
 
Thanks for all the support guys. It actually means a lot. It's kinda interesting, the house next door got hit as well and the incident has had the effect of bringing the the neighborhood together. We even had someone bring us

Still, I had a tough time sleeping last night.. every little sound is suddenly suspect. God, I shudder to think if my wife and 2 year old had been home... they usually are at that time.. and the way our house is built it can be very difficult to tell if someone is home looking from the outside. Scary.

Get dogs. Big ones for preference.
They ~really~ act as a deterrent to casual robbers.
Won't stop pros, but then not much will...
 
We used to have a Rhodesian Ridgeback, a hunting dog from southern Africa.. known for keeping lions at bay. "Big Mack" was his name... and he was 100lbs in his prime. When he barked, which was rare, it was the loudest, deepest bark I've ever heard come from a dog.

One time he ate two 10 lbs bags of potatoes at one sitting (yes he did get sick).

I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his anger. :smile:

Maybe it's time to get another.....
 
If you don't mind them hefty, you could do a lot worse than a BoerBoel or a Bull Mastiff.

They give off that "you want to go next door" look even when they are just lying there, and you don't have any problems with most home insurance companies that you can get with rotties, pits, shepherds or american bulldogs.

That said, even our two do the "move along" job nicely, and they are relatively small at just over 70lbs each. They are better around young kids than firearms too...

The cretins are often watching your home to see when you leave. Still very scary because how do they know wehn you will come back. I had a MIG welder stolen out of my garage while early in the restoration of my Spitfire. Did not realize for a couple of years that they also got an old CPAP machine that was my mother's. Paid $1300 for that thing that I may could have gotten back.
 
my sympathies to you Shannon. Had it happen to me a couple years back.Ended up selling the place as the Mrs. never felt safe in there after that.
Word of advice here,get a dog or upgrade security system,because in my case them decrepit knobs tried the same thing about 9 weeks later.Guess they thought the would check out the new stuff.
What they hadn't counted on, I was at home at the time.....needless to say a pitbull had nothin on this guy....then the parents tried to sue me for using excessive force ...!!! got away with it tho.and if they life long enough they will have quite a story to tell the grand kids about their misspent youth and a 240 lb bald guy that turned into an alligator.They will have scars to show em!!
