I looked a '70 BGT advertized locally. I can have it for 2K. It has the following pros and cons in no particular order: Any commentary (snide /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif or otherwise)?

GOOD:
No rust on floor or doglegs
Compression (my test) 130/135/130/125 warm
OP = 40ish warm idle
Trans is smooth and quiet
Clutch is good
Appears structurally good
Perfect headliner
Dash top good but has adapters for A/C vents in face (Could use for tweeters?)
Engine box is same color as car
Runs great on street and freeway
Like-new Mini-lites & tyres
Perfect aluminum(?) bonnet (Can you tell w/o a magnet?

BAD:
Bondo'd LR corner. (Not too visible outside, ugly inside)
Dent in LF fender by wheel
Possible rust in front fenders
Poor repaint looks like whatever white was used that year
One split bumper is pretty pitted
No OD
Motor probably has over 80K but see above

I'm thinking daily driver /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif:
Commercial repaint - same color
Seats from my wrecked GT
Exhaust from mine
Fenders from mine if needed

Seller seems honest. He showed me bad stuff and good.

Ha, what kind of a daily that you have spairs for can you get for 2K.

Bet it has a new home soonish.

I'll take it for 2k......

Thanks, guys! If I pass, I'll hook you up! I gotta learn how to post pictures...

Use a website like photobucket. Download your pics and store them there for free. Click a link at the bottom the pic and "copied" appears. Paste it into the reply feild when you are posting. It's quite eay.

Nice find. Got any pics? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Okay, I did it! I set up an account on Photobucket. Thanks for the nudge! Let's see if this works. These images are fromthe original listing so they're pretty low res. but all I've got.

Yes.. it looks pretty good unless there's a lot of rust hidden underneath. I'd say its a decent start. Good luck with her.

Unless that puppy dog is rusted, grab it!!

Remember, guys we don't have the rust issues you do in the east and midwest. Here it's more about body condition than rust. Cars are more likely to get wrecked(lots of moving objects to hit or be hit by)than seriously rusted.

There's yet another car I found today. '74, one owner until these folks recently bought the estate. (What an estate!)
It also appears to be rust-free and in need of some real bodywork. They say it's a documentable 46K car but the motor is red and s/b black. RED FLAG! I'l pass but here are a couple of pics so if anyone is interested, I'll send you more. (The owner sent me a bunch.)They want $1950 for it, not running.

For the difference, I'd go with the '70.

That's what I thought. I already bowed out of the '74. I'll decide on the '70. It reminds me of Julian's car "Harold," the BGT in Pasadena that he sold a few months ago. I probably should have bought him but I wasn't ready. I think he went for just a little more and we KNOW he was well taken care of.

Thanks!

Yes do the 70. The 74 looks decent as well.

I realize I'm kinda late responding to this thread. But my son, John, was recently looking on Craigslist for a used car and ran across this 74 MGB GT in nearby Crawfordsville (30 miles away). I don't know a thing about the car or the owner - but, for $600 it looks like a pretty good deal for a project car:

Durn Tom, go look and take cash. Hundred dollar bills.

The 70 - in a heartbeat!

Of course I am partial to the 70...

Does it go forward, backward and stop under its own power?
If so then snap it up!!

"Pretty good" deal?? If that is a pretty good deal, I'd love to see what a great deal is. If I were you, I would head immediately for the bank to pick up that cash. If there's no rust, that thing is an incredible steal.

Guys, this is the time of year when the deals start coming out of garages; winter is setting in, guys are getting tired of those unfinished projects, wives want their garages cleaned out so they have a place for their plants over the bad months.

Now's the time to always have about $500 cash in your pocket because you never know what you'll run into. I just bumped into an '80's Nissan Z-Car...body & interior are perfect...ooks like the transmission has leaked all its fluid & the engine might need some work....$1000...& my buddy with the salvage yard has a good engie he'll sell to me for $300!

Carry cash!!
