My good friend got an 97 or 8 SC from his wife for his 50th.

911's were always expensive cars to me.

This was at Sebring a year ago or so, three old guys (the 911, the guys onna left & right) and a 'kid' in the middle. '71 car, pal got it back in '75 or '76, IIRC. There's another, more recent one in that big box behind us. The older one ate a valve that weekend, one of the magnesium engines... it has now been taken out, repaired and stored/shelved.
White car is now getting a 3.6L 'transplant' from a munched Cabrio we found last fall. It'll be wicked fast! :devilgrin:

I sold/flipped the 911 last year but kinda wished I'd held onto it. It had Cal smog issues I didn't want to mess with (Grey market car - 1st time through car failed because it had a cat but no cat sticker, 2nd time failed because they couldn't find the CARB cert, etc) I then bought a 88 930 but flipped it too. I wanted a daily driver and that wasn't going to cut it. A 4 speed? In 1988, really? Those things were supercars back in the day but after driving it I'm pretty sure most any of the top end Honda/Datsun/Toyota sedans would blow it's doors off. Both were obtained because of people's immediate needs to satisfy stock market cash calls. Sad, really. Still, I grin a lot more driving the 6 than I did in the others but if I could unload the 8 to make room for a 911, I'd do it.
 
i also have 911s and a 930 and id have to say that there must have been somthing wrong with a 930 that would be beat by even a high end honda or toyota. my 79 930 has a 4 speed as well and cant figure what you would do with another gear. but love my 911s just looking for a good triumph to fill the void.

I was making a weak attempt at humor and to point out that what was one of the (if not the) premier supercars of the 80's is now merely as fast as several current sedans. I did not race it against whatever the fast 4door out of Japan is these days but I understand the performance numbers are similar to the latest crop of high end sedans. It sure felt considerably slower than an M5 particularly until the boost showed up. And with the driver aids the modern cars have most people can drive one very fast, very consistently and for me just kind of knocks the wind out of my perception of invincibility that these supercars had. Time moves on, technology changes.
