I tried to get lost yesterday...

I've been feeling a little stir crazy lately, and needed to find some time 'away from it all' to do some thinking. So, yesterday, I topped off the tank and set out on a trip to where ever the roads would take me. No maps, no clue where I would end up, and no objectives other than to go out, drive, and stop for an hour or two to think at some point that I would determine to be my 'turn around' spot. Where that spot would be was to be determined when I got there.

Well, turned out that I found this section of (click to see map) "Big Pines HWY". If I had a map with me, I would have kept going, but I had reached a point in my fuel level that I decided 'point B' on the map was to be my turn around point, just in case I couldn't remember my way back...

I decided to record some of the drive back, because it put a Big 'ole grin on my face. I found that the road signs were less than descriptive in a couple of spots... I.E. hair pins makred with 90deg turn signs with no 'recommended speed', which resulted in eye-opening turns and explicatives ushering forth by myself. However, the camera wasn't rolling on the trip out there. Since I enjoyed the road so much, I decided to record some of the trip back. Oh yeah, I did see 3 Triumphs out in the mountains yesterday too... 2 Spits, and a Wedge ... all of whom were driving Miss Daisy... At least they were kind enough to pull over and let me by /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

BTW, if you kept going straight you would hit a gas station eventually.

I'm looking forward to driving the old Ridge Route https://www.ridgeroute.com/index.html the next time I head to Sp Cal (hopefully with the bugeye). Saw the PBS show on it today and it looks like a lot of fun. Never got to do a lot of touring when going up down there, but used to do all our snow skiing in the area Rob drove.

Great road to DRIVE, and amazes me there were only 5 vehicles in over 7 minutes of driving. Lovely scenery from that ridge. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I kind of figured that out after I got home and looked at where I was on a map... If I had a map with me at the time I probably would have kept going straight. But then, that would have defeated the purpose of Saturday's drive: to get in the car, go, not worry about where I was, or where I was going... the only thing sensible about Saturday's drive was worrying about whether or not I could make it back.

Hmmmm... I guess it was a test of man and machine of sorts. It was the first 'long' drive I've taken the car on since I emptied the boot of everything except the spare and jack. I've been driving to work and back since mid-summer with an empty boot, but Saturday was the first time I took it on a good drive...

Incidentally, I think I'm clocking my current best economy run on this tank of gas. 180 miles on this tank and it's just now kissing 1/2 full. I'm usually in the gas station filling it back up by now...

Nothing better than getting in a car and just driving. When I lived in NC, we used to take out the B' and just drive West. Great roads, and some great BBQ. I hope to be able to do it again soon. Not in Fl, though. If you go West for an hour, you hit the other coast. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Although, I haven't been to Sanibel Island for a few years...

You could turn that to your advantage. If the strike lasts a while, you could start cabbing. We have some old magnetic taxi skins that you could put on the GTS. Think of the tips driving people around in that.

I have a suction cup mount for my camera. I stuck it to the windshield. You can see a small bit of the suction cup base peeking into the frame throughout the video...
