I think my Bugeye Sprite has finally found me

I've still got room in my back yard...

Oh man, I hope my wife isn't lurking here.
:wall:

There is a Bugeye roller in Lake Shasta City, CA, and a later Sprite that is complete, been sitting out in the yard for years. They guy wants them gone, in case anyone is interested.

I'd consider dragging that Bugeye home. Do you have any contact info for the individual who owns them?
thanks
Mark

Sure do. Its they are actually in Lakehead. Shasta Lake Auto Repair, owner is Ted
530-524-8532.
He got them in trade I think, he is open to offers. He would probably take $500 for the both of them.
The big thing on the bugeye is the trans tunnel was cut open, so the driveline is exposed to the interior. Maybe they were going to do a V8 swap or something. Nothing that isn't repairable with a bent piece of metal and some welding. If I recall, the tub needed the usual amount of work, but was overall not bad. The bonnet would need the passenger side fender replaced as well as the beading. It could be repaired as-is, but it would take a talented body person. No motor/trans, just a roller. Nice glass and frame. If I had a place to put them, I'd snag them, especially for the price. I got the impression he just wants them gone.
Good luck!

If someone needs a bugeye bonnet fender for this car (or any other). I have a set from my car that I could supply, as I found a replacement bonnet.

No worries, let me know if you get them. You'll owe me a six pack finder fee

And if you are interested, I have a spare bonnet I'm not going to use. Needs about the same amount of work as the one shown. I will be selling it, not sure of the price yet.

That BE bonnet doesn't look scarey to me at all! I could use the MK 3 Sprite boot lid as well! You guys on the west coast are truly in car heaven!!

Kurt.

I called the owner yesterday for some more info and decided I'm not going to jump on this one after all. He said there have been some "frame modifications" and what looks to him like a transmission mount welded in. also, he said he thinks a wider rear end was installed as the wheels stick out past the wheel well openings. If it were closer to me I'd go take a look, but 600 miles is too much to gamble given the info he provided. I appreciate the tip though

The wider rear end is on the newer sprite. As for frame modifications, I popped the hood and all looked normal there. They just cut up the trans tunnel. The old man that has the yard is pretty clueless  Oh, and the trans mount was the stock one.

Hmmmmm. Now I'll have to think up another excuse so all of you don't figure out that the real reason is my wife said NO.......Uh oh!did I just type that out loud?

Okay, time to start putting Bugeye pictures up everywhere and saying things like "don't you just love that smile???"
Or "So what did you want for your birthday dear???"
Or "But it's for you honey, don't you think you need a cute little Bugeye???"

I literally warned my wife years ago that someday it would come and whatever it was it would be mine. I've also sweetened the deal by telling her the ugly Midget parts car will go away. Maybe that's the trick, start out with something really ugly that you are willing to lose in trade for what you really want...

I don't know, I always remember what Tony said. Something like: "Never tell her no and she will never tell you no". Sorry if that's a poor paraphrase.

I am not sure that works at our house.
The standard answer to "I'm going to buy another guitar" has been no for years.

SWMBO is very supportive and very loving but I'm pretty sure in her eyes they are ALL ugly Midget parts. Just sayin'

Dude, mistake #1 is announcing it. Just go buy it. Problem is, the things you buy make noise and are hard to hide. If I want a new (whatever), I go buy one.

She wants the boat money right now. I'll probably give it to her seeing we need to pay some bills.

It took almost 2 years to convince my wife to let me buy my sprite. It wasn't about the money but the space...I convinced her she would still be able to park in the garage during the restoration...boy she is gullible!
