I think I'm out of my photographic slump...

Okay, for a couple of months I've been personally unhappy on the whole with my photograrphy, although some claim that my slump is rather more than they could dream for... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Here are some of the street photos I took today, am I ready for pro yet?

(dang it! eyes a little too soft here...)

Plus a couple from last weekend that I think turned out excellent...

So what do you think? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Anyway I'm finally feeling positive about my photography again

Nice work! Do you get your subjects to sign a release?

Nope... Just a verbal consent, plus I give them my business card that says "freelance photographer" plus lists my website...

James... carry a "standard release" form (multiple copies) as part and parcel of the kit. Get 'em signed. Can't recall if I ever suggested this, so: "Photography and the Law" is an essential read, too. No real stock house I know of will take material without release. If you have 'em you have the right to sell the image. If not, all you have is a nice photo. Pro's ~sell~ images. Technically, you have already "published" the photos if they're on the Web...

I like the bottom one. Dirty, grey and not well kept background with two Clean looking well dressed blondes in the middle. Really punches them out and make this a great shot.

Not to mention they're "lightin' up" beside a GAS METER!

I was going to mention the cigs part of it. Something dirty in itself as to where they decided to stop & smoke. Like they are hiding from someone to light up a quick one.

sherlock, the girl with the hat on looks amazingly similar to my sons girlfriend, i feel you have a great eye for structuring the photos you shoot and apparently have an endless selection of wonderful subjects, always loved your work, more, more, more! slump, what slump? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

The cigarette smokers next to the gas meter has been noted prior to this, still a fun shot though... I confess that I did play with some saturation work on that photo, particularly with the red jacket...

@Anthony

Thanks, people are people wherever they are, living in a city of a million people helps too... Although wherever I go with my camera (urban or rural) I'm always looking for a potential people photo, along with whatever else I was planning to photograph anyway.

You are capturing some of the true Canadian beauty. Especially the girl in the hat. Very captivating eyes.

And to answer Doc...

I'm looking at photo opportunities (meaning money) in the arts & culture scene, plus formal portrait work (meaning money), allowing me the freedom to do street level photography at will just for the fun aspect of it. I suspect I'll still have a day job for awhile yet, while I pursue photographic opportunities.

Actually... I'm being paid a small sum of money to photograph at a concert next week, hey, it's a start...

Uh Jeff... I did say I'm now much happier with these photos in comparison to my stuff from three weeks ago *eggs him on*

Now off to do some snow shooting on the way to church, see you all later /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

Oh yeah, sorry Darwin /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Happy birthday! *scurries off for good, for a few hours*

Really nice work. Your people shots are great. I work at my photos a bit, but I've never been able to get good people shots - so hard to time them, not make the person uncomfortable, etc. I can only take OK pics when I have plenty of time to setup and compose.

Sherlock,
Your work amazes me. you have an eye for capturing beauty and intrest in any subject, and the composition of the shots is always pleasing.
I'm sure you could make money with your photography.
Thanks for sharing them with us for free.
and
happy birthday Dar.

James,

Good work - keep it up.
Where do you find all of those pretty girls?
We have a sying around here -
Q.)What do you call a pretty girl in Eureka?
A.)A tourist.

- Doug

Hey Doug...

I also live in a city of a million people, lots of folks to meet, and I do photograph lots of different people, not just the pretty ladies... Proof positive? Only took one photo, on slide film loaded into my Minolta SLR

And guess the truck folks, it's an old one.

And on a final note, here's one for Doc (if he reads this thread again), because I just know he loves snow and winter /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
