A few months back I posted some pics of a couple Bugeyes I picked up in VT. I’ve been busy building a new garage, so stripping them took a back burner for a bit. Well I finally got the best one up on stands and began stripping. When I got the left rear tail light off I could see a lot of cheese. Just what we don’t like to find, right. I got the heat gun out and began pealing the bondo away, and away, and away. It was so bad they actually formed the fender bead out of body filler. It was over a half inch thick, with paint underneath. It was obvious that the right rear had been hit, so I started making a material list and getting prices.
The other day I saw a parts car on Ebay that had a good left rear. So I told my girlfriend that we might be taking another road trip. Her eyes widened, and the questions began, are you serious, why do you want to get it, we agreed that we weren’t going to buy ourselves anything till after Christmas, etc, etc. “You need to tell me if you are going to get it” she says. Well the light went off, there was going to be a new quarter panel in my proverbial stocking. I was floored; I mean there is nothing better than sheet metal for Christmas right? So tonight I get home and there is a box from Victoria British , about the size of a MKI Sprite rear quarter, sitting on the porch. I want to open it. I want to open it bad.
