I Think I did the Right Thing

As most of you here probably know,I bought a nicer '94 Dodge Dakota to
replace my '95 Dakota. While going through the receipts,I realized that I've put
a little more into the '95 than I paid for it.
When I pulled the spare tire out of the '94,& put it back up under the bed,
I noticed that the wheel was rusted very badly.I don't think it'd ever been taken
out before,& the piece that holds it in place bent,so it wouldn't hold the spare
in place.
I had a guy coming over to look at it & test drive it,so I wanted him to see
what it looked like under there. Made an offer that I accepted, but later told me
he couldn't afford to spend that much. I started out high,& the offer was $750
less than I was asking. He said he could only come up with $3500 - $1400 less
than my asking price.
I went out to put the "FOR SALE" signs back in the truck,& checked on a
noise I'd been hearing whenever I hit a decent sized bump.Turned out to be a top
shock mount, which had pulled out of it's support.
I called him back,& told him what had happened to it,& that I'd take $3500
for it,if he took it "AS IS".I was hoping to get about what I paid for the "New" '94,but
figured it was better to let it go cheaper,& not have any bad feelings down the road
from the buyer, plus I don't have to pay a shop to do the repairs,as I'm still recovering
from hand surgery,& can't do it myself.
Right thing to do?

Did fine, don't over think it. You were honest, should be conscientious free. Stash your cash, be happy! 😀

Thanks for the replies.I guess I'm a little bummed in that I thought
I'd come out a little better financially, after seeing all the crazy money
people are asking(& many times getting) for vehicles nowadays. I think
I'd feel guilty for doing that myself.
It's better to be honest,& to disclose faults when selling something,
rather than making enemies.
I wonder now if I should have posted this now. There's been a lot of
things going on in my life lately that have been very trying, plus being off
of work for almost five months (three without a paycheck)doesn't help either.
I'm thinking of changing my name to "Columbo",as every time I go to
the Doctor (& other things in my life) it seems that it's always -
"One more thing".

Price sometimes of getting older. Hard to sit, when used to moving around and doing things. Health first, keep moving, do not give up. I tried selling used cars once. Could not push selling something I would not put my wife in. Wife said I was to honest while selling my old cars. Sold them lower than most, sometimes taking batteries out for reduced price. You have enough things to worry about. To me price was good to offset more repairs. Sold a Grand Marquis once, told the buyer he must put oil in filter first or it would knock. He said OK, car is staying local anyway.

You did the right thing Doug, not just by the buyer (being honest) but by yourself (not needing the agravation)

I must say that whenever I buy something (especially cars) they are priceless, salesman hand over heart 'this car has the best residual value we have ever seen' and when it is sold it is worthless - 'sorry sir, that's the best we can do.

Enjoy them use them but unless it is a ferrari don't expect to profit from them.

I don't know - when I'm too full of myself,my Wife reminds
me that I'm not that great.
