I should leave things well alone, I swear

So the wiper motor on the 8 is a bit arthritic. Ok, it's a lot arthritic. Positively glacial in fact. Based on a suggestion from the wedge list, I remove and grease up the screw line.

Spent half an hour unwinding it, 5 minutes greasing it, 25 minutes putting it back in.

Turn on the wipers, and it's somewhat better. Not modern by any stretch of the imagination, but useable all the same.

Go to turn it off and the wiper switch explodes in my hand - literally - there's about a dozen tiny pieces of plastic and metal in the footwell of the car, and a stalk hanging loose.

To cap it all, the switch is NLA.

I should have just decided to never drive it in the rain and left well alone, I'd be better off...

Alan-

I've rehabbed the wiper motor on my TR6 twice now
and replaced the switch with an after market and wires
with the Dan Masters wire harness.

The wipers still move like a 100 year old window washer
man and hardly move water. I try to avoid rain because my
top leaks more than it hold out.

'Tis but a sample of the joys of ownership! Can't tell you how many similar episodes I've had with the several LBC's I've had.

And don't you just love the lacquered wiring these beasties sport? I spent the better part of this morning tracking down an issue with my low-temp cooling fan sensor and repairing it. The white lead had a break in it that wasn't visibly apparent. Did have time to take it for a spin before the rain that's due; both high and low sensors operating properly... for now...

Masochists all, we are!

I bet Todd has a couple. I saw your request on the Digest and if you find any arms let me in on it.

They do show up on eBay fairly often.

A guy on the list contacted me and he has one.

It's just the irritation factor - I try to fix something and then something else breaks in its place...

I'm beginning to think the TR8 is jealous of the TR6 and you're the guy stuck in the middle.

I think that I warned you about that.......these cars are very sensitive.

I'm pretty sure it's the other way round.
If I had to sell one right now, it would be the red one.
Just don't let it hear me - it'll break down on 95 tomorrow if it does.

<span style="color: #990000">Alan,

Are you talkin' bad about my red Crypt Car again??
And BTW, it's Rte 22 it usually breaks down on.

I bought my mistake repair part from Ted (I tore it apart and broke the part that Parks the wipers on the wiper screw) It was awhile ago but I can brag I tore my wipers apart 4 or 5 times before I broke it finally.

If I am right in thinking that the TR8 used the same indicator stalk as all of the other Triumphs of that period you should be able to get one from Rimmer Brothers or any specialists in the UK. A few years ago they retailed at ÂŁ47 each, so not cheap once shipping is added. They were notoriously unreliable, but you should be able to pick one up second-hand. I think that the Mini and various other British cars used the same switch.

I'd trade a busted wiper switch for a healthy motor any day!!

...and Alan's got one of those NOW!!

My daddy always said "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

yea my dad said the same thing, but I would rather maintain a car than to get stuck on the road and wait for a tow truck

just my 10 cents
