I restored my rostyles, but...??

Well, I finally finished restoring some rostyles I bought and I need to take them down to the body shop, but the question is this...should I clear coat them or not? There is clear coat in with the argent silver but I wonder about the black on the insets. I'd hate to have to kill the person who scuffs them up with a torque wrench when they put on those lug nuts, not to mention the dings I know I'll get from gravel and what not. Any ideas???
Thanks!

I'd clear coat them...I didn't do my rostyles when I restored them, but next time I will, silver paint stains easiy so if dirty water sits on the rim for a while or something like that it might stain, plus it just adds extra protection and a nice even shine....I've done some other rims with clear coated before and they all turned out great and I've had no problems with it.

I used Duplicolor high performance wheel coating(What makes it "high performance"?) and I've been so impressed with it I've used it on other items, both automotive and household. The scary part is when you first put it on it may go milky white due to humdity, but don't worry it'll all come out when it dries.

I would get them cleared. Hot tip if your not providing your own clear wait for the body shop to do another job and have them tack yours on the end as they will have some clear left over. I've done this with other stuff and usualy its really cheap as its just about pure profit for the shop as any left over clear will be tossed.

Will the clear coat yellow or crack? I'd looked in a couple of other forums and that seemed to be an issue. I hate to be anal but I did come into the world this way!

If its a good quality clear there shouldn't be an issue. The stuff used by body shops should never do that or they are going to have some very angry customers. The stuff strait out of a rattle can could go yellow as it is not near the same quality of the professional stuff.

I've done a few sets of rostyles. I've always used single stage paint. It looks closer to factory and is MUCH easier to repair.
Nothing wrong clearing them. then they look really nice. But I tend to like the less "flashy" appearance and the practicle approach to a driver.
It'd be different if all I did was went to shows, or cared about winning anything at a show when I do go .
I don't think you'll make a bad decision either way here.

Definetly go with the clear coat I used rattle cans on my cars rostyles over 7 months ago have not had any yellowing problems even had to touch them up when new tires were mounted just taped off the rubber and reshot then cleared them again

That's it. You're addicted... trapped. Too late now for a change of heart. Next you'll experience "separation anxiety" when you travel with friends in THEIR cars: "I shoulda driven myself, durnit!" Then followed by more excuses to "improve" your LBC, just to spend ~more~ time with it. Your friends will talk behind yer back about whether you need therapy or not: "He's ALWAYS messin' with that car... shouldn't we talk to him about it?" You'll make excuses when someone asks: "Why don't you get a RELIABLE car?!?" Your peer group will change subtly over time. You'll get excited over hand tools...

My Rx: "Just relax and enjoy the ride."
