I need this car

[ QUOTE ]
Those early ones had a chain final drive. There were some coupes as well. I've forgotten the details, but there was some major issue with them at first causing them to be withdrawn almost immediately. They were too expensive to return and were all rode the gangplank somewhere off the coast of Seattle. A quick search led to no details, but perhaps someone here remembers?

The chain drive was neat stuff though - basically a live axle with at each end going to each wheel giving an independant suspension of sorts. I have a picture that I'll post later that shows it better than I can explain.

Carbs are Keihen. I had an S600 in the U.K. for several years, from 1966 to 1978 - one of only 6 officially imported. I still have its original wood-rim steering wheel in my garage. I had to change it when I used the car in competition, as it didn't conform to safety regulations.
Mine ended up beng very special, with Minilite wheels, 5-speed box, disk brakes on the front, and lowered front and rear, and a very rare 700cc engine that would rev over 11,000 with no problem.
All the 600s were chain drive, and even some of the early drum-braked S800s were too, though I don't think any of those were exported from Japan. I had a later S800 MkII as well, but the 600 was my favourite.
It was quick. I could pass standard "Spridgefires" and then change up . . .

Back in 89-91 there was one of these S600's sitting in the the parts department office at Ward Chrysler in Carbondale IL. My buddy that worked there said it belonged to the owner of the dealership. Don't know if it is still poking around that area or not. It was a red convertible and that is about all I know. Definitely a pretty little car.

It's interesting to me that so many of us lust after Elevens and sometimes the odd Lola - you mentioned the beautiful Mk.1 - but why not the early front-engined Elvas? Is it a styling thing?

I guess for me the 6 just has it over the 5.
(The 5 was the last front engine)

This is the 6

BTW......The 6 IS my favorite Elva sport racer (Yes...Over the 7 and GT160)
If parts for it were available, I'd take it over the Lola Mk1, Lotus 11 & 23B or anything else.

Imagine having one of each of the above cars available - and money in your pocket for just one of them. I guess you'd go with the Elva 6 but I think I'd just be paralyzed.

While searching for the ultimate in early Japanese Sports offerings I came across the attached example.

Do not look at it if you do not want "Tears of a Clown" by Smokey Robinson playing in your head!

Cheers!
