Does anyone have a good used set of 1275, standard size pistons that they want to sell?
I just took my spare engine and found that each piston had one good compression ring left (each). These are the "factory" 4-ring ones but on each piston the top 2 rings were broken-up really badly and piston #1 has the top ring groove all opened-up.

PS- all bores are PERFECT, don't understand why.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for,but I have a really good set of 21251 pistons in +.020 size,if you're willing to bore your block.They came with a 1275 block I purchased--the engine had recently been rebuilt,and the pistons only show slight scuffing.They are completely useable as-is.I have no need for them,and will send them out to you for $20 delivered.Just drop me a line if you're interested.

If Bill doesn't want them and you would still like to get rid of them, I'm pretty much in the same situation. I would like to buy those pistons.

Bill try British Parts Northwest, they are a sponsor here, Steve has some good prices, he sells the same piston AE21251 that Jim mentioned, he may have standard pistons in stock, the AE21251 is a a three ring desing, and really a beter design that the OEM piston in my opinion. If you can find the AE21253 in stndard bore it has a slightly higher compressio height and raise the compression ratio a bit, cost a few dollars more but it is cheap horsepower.
 
You might still call, but I check BPNW and it shows starting at .020", you can check Ebay ther is alway someone selling std. piston there, because there is little to no market for them. Here's another thought, if you had broken rings it could be form wear on the bore, so you need to mic the piston and check the bore with a boroe gauge, it could be that you have excessive bore wear and this is what you broke your ring, it would be sahme to do this twice. You need to mic the piston opposite of the pin bores, and then after checking the cylinders, if yo come up with say more than .004", go for a bore job and oversize pistons.
 
So .004 larger than piston O.D. is the correct clearance? I am planning boring out a block for O/S pistons in the near future.
 
Does it depends on the piston material/construction?
 
I checked all of the bores all of the way around (telescoping gage & mic, 2.780") and couldn't find any place that was even loose at all, and NO scratches! The bottom compression ring on all 4 pistons was perfect (as well as the oil control ring) but on each piston the upper two rings were shattered into about 10 pieces each!
I think that it may have been a case of "hamfist" engine building.

Hi Bill, that's weird. What could cause that?
How damaged were the pistons themselves?

One piston is toast, the other 3 are OK.
I am guessing that he didn't use a ring compressor or maybe didn't clean-up the ridge on top when he put in new pistons but that would have only done the top ring, not 2 and besides it measured out really good so I doubt that there was much ridge to remove.
I'll show you the pistons on Saturday.

Could be the ring gap was too close or nonexistant.
