My brother-in-law has a 1967 Mercedes 230 SL. He is having some health problems and is thinking about selling the car. It is in pretty good condition. There are a little surface rust in a couple of areas(no rust through).There is a small dent on the top of the front passenger's side fender where someone dropped something on it while in the garage. The driver's seat has a small tear in the bottom and the carpet probably needs to be replaced.

The car has both tops. I don't know the condition of the soft top as the hard top is installed. It has power steering, power brakes and A/C.

I think he is the 3rd owner of the car. I don't know much about the history of the car or how it runs.

I told him that I would try to find what a fair price would be for the car.

I know this is not much information but I would appreciate any help, Pete

It's a "Pagoda" isn't it? Values for those have risen over the past few years, and they are fetching good money. I seem to remember that Hemmings did a feature on these not so long ago. I'll try to find the article.
 
Here's what I have found so far:-

Currently from the Hemmings web site, for a 1967 Mercedes 230SL.

The average asking price is: $37,840.00
The highest asking price is: $70,000.00
The lowest asking price is: $29,500.00

Needs a little more research, but I would suggest that the car is worth approximately $40K.........depends if it runs well.

Any more input guys?
 
Those things are going up in value right now....the leather interior is expensive to replace...the convertible top is around $800 plus installation....they go down in value amongst the Mercedes purists when repainted for some reason ....& Hemmings is at the top end of prices in the entire hobby so use it with an understanding that its is just that (I was pleasantly shocked by what I found out about my 380SL when looking in Hemming's to see what peole were asking for theirs!).

But, Steve's correct - she's worth a pretty penny!
 
Oh well, My wife bought it.

We went to get it tonight. It has a few issues, but nothing we can't resolve.

She said that if we had the MB I might not be in such a foul mood about not getting my TR back from the paint shop. It helps a little.hehehe

Hope your fuel metering unit has been rebuilt in the recent past. And when you fill up might add a can of SeaFoam every other tankful. Those fuel units get a bit costly in repairs.

Doc, Beautiful car. I don't know if my bride will let me completely disassemble her new toy. I don't think this one will need a complete rebuild. I will know more when I get in to it.

Pro'lly a good approach, James. I seem to work against myself if I try doin' more than one at a time. Some sort of anomaly wot squares the time factor involved for each. Weird. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

hehee. You ain't in that club alone, Pete. The B progress is at a dead stop for lack of jack. Hopefully by the time Tony gets back CONUS I'll be orderin' the poly bushes and getting this thing roadworthy. THEN I get to shovel out th' "stuff" from that endeavor and see iff'n I can FIND the Elan I left inna garage before I started the B re-do.

I am waiting on paint. The guy has had my car since the middle of March. I told him that I would like to have it finished so I could start driving it in June. He said "no problem". It is now June and he has barley started on it. I am looking for someone else to do the paint, but all of the good shops are too busy on insurance work to take it in.

If I find someone else to paint it for me I will back the hauler up to his garage & load it up..
