I need pistons

Tony, shoot me a price, okay? Good luck with Moss though. I need 30 over piston set (rings, caps, rods whatever) for the '66. Ummm 3" long? or whatever fits. Moss has N/A, says to buy the 2.4" long but that's N/A also. And way pricey.

There are 2 sets of pistons (rods, caps, etc) for Binabox. One set is at the machine shop with the head/block/crank. The other is here because dahubby said they were 'scored' and we couldn't use them. I went out and checked for markings. Only one piston is stamped 30+. There's no other markings except one that is stamped 'front.' I have no idea if these were the pistons IN the engine or not before the DPOPTT (dreaded previous owner prior to Tony) had everything disassembled and in boxes. No bag and tag, just boxes and boxes.

IF these pistons were in the engine when it was running, the engine must already be bored 30 over. Right?

Naomi - you've got a PM...oh, & I wouldn't bet that the engine ran with those pistons...he might've been collecting things to build it, I don't know

But I'm not Naomi.

Maybe. It'd be best to measure the bore. At least, put a piston in and check clearances with a feeler guage for an idea of size, though it can vary with wear and you won't know whether its the piston that's worn, or the bore, or both....

If you've a machine shop doing the work they should check that all (Bore size, roundness, etc.) out as routine....

I thought you were back to work this week Janel. I think Basil was looking for that chance to shut down and retool the site while it was running at 20% capacity. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Weird week here.

Anyway. Pistons are ordered. I'm annoyed, and I'm not talking about it right now.

dh ran to John's shop today to pick up the middle piece of pipe for Emma's exhaust. While I'm busting my rumble seat to price out pistons, he ORDERS them.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. No he didn't know what they were going to cost. I called John right away to tell him not to order (I'd gotten a price from Tony and a few other places) but John'd already placed the order.

I'm going to be single by the time this car is rebuilt. Or in jail.

By the way, we have to go 40 over because it was bored out to 30+ already (I guess that's what dh meant) and it was very rusty.

Then, dh says, "John said to go to Eastman to order P40." I said, no, that's Eastwood and it's POR15. After a lively discussion, I jumped on the internet to show him. It took calling John back and verifying it was EASTWOOD and POR15. (but I ordered direct from POR)

Man is going to be the death of me.

I hope those bloody pistons run $100 more than anywhere I could have gotten them.

Jaybird, what is your machine shop charging for the various servies he is doing for you? Just ball park is fine.

Jack

My AE 40-over pistons would've been $170 delivered - with rings! hehehehe

I know Tony, I know. I'm sorry. GRRRRRRR.

I have NO idea what the machine shop is charging. All I do is write out checks. I can find out and let you know though, and exactly what the guy is doing. I've half a mind to call him myself and tell him to P&P while he has it.

Jack, I don't have an exact figure, but Chuck is guestimating $5-600.

Hmmm, for that kind of money I must assume he disasimbled the engine. Boiled all. Rebuilt head, valves, guides, springs, keepers. Installed pistons, crank, new bearings through out and timeing chain and gears?

Did you get it ballanced as well?

He's doing all that for us.

Is that high? I don't know. And remember, Chuck was just guessing. It could be less, it could be more.

Sounds OK to me but then what do I know. Is he providing all the parts except for the pistons?

We bought a few things, but I don't remember what it was for.
