Yep, I do. I have 1 daily driver and I need another because my wife needs to go back to work. If I were to make my Spitfire a Daily Driver then I would not be able to afford the insurance, plus it would be a terrible shame to take a 22k mile show car and start thrashing it. I have kids and it has no back seats, and my daughter is scared of it. So, sadly, I need to sell it or trade it for a DD. NADA says its worth $12,150. I'm asking for $11,000, but obviously I'll make an awesome deal if one of you guys get it and take care of it... and maybe give me visitation rights? I'll consider trades too. I can't afford to trade up, or I would in no way be getting rid of this fantastic car.

Sorry to hear it Pete.

I'm sure the car is super nice, but I haven't seen many Spitfires trade in that range outside of high profile auction events. (not trying to be negative, just passing along an observation).

Hope you get visiation rights. Maybe a Stag as a replacement? :smile:
 
I've got to agree with tdskip. Looks like a nice car, but I think you're a bit optimistic to put in that price range.
 
I'm in no hurry to sell the car, I just need to have a Daily Driver by mid summer. Yeah $11k is too high, but I want to see the offers. If a BCF member wants it, I'd settle for 6k, because then I'd have no doubt it will be treated right and picked up with a flat-bed or an enclosed trailer. With the offers I've been getting I'll probably pull the add, put up different pictures and put a price on it that will settle at about 7.5k.

Some of the offers have been around 6.5, but its been from people who want it as a daily driver or to buy it as their 16 year old kids 1st car. Those kinda of people need to make the weight of the money weigh more than the pressure on my heart from seeing this go that route.

I hear you; I've been there before myself. It's kind of like selling a puppy. The guy I sold my '80 Spit to a few years ago had, within about a week, reversed six months of work I had put into it! I had to take deep breaths and just keep saying, "it's his car now, it's his car now."

Wouldn't count on that (unless they make a solemn promise). I bought a low mileage TR4 pretty much all original including interior and paint. It got towed on a barge, lowered into a ship's hold and driven on an open car carrier to get to me. I have been driving it daily for the past 9 years... or maybe 'flogging it' would be more accurate.

IMO, with the possible exception of long-door 2s & LHD TR5s and such, these cars aren't really rare enough to warrant preserving as collector pieces but rather are best enjoyed in action knowing they can be repaired & restored ad infinitum.

Good luck selling it as I can see you have some good reasons.

I'm a bit puzzled by that statement, Pete. I have my TR3 (and the TR3A before it) insured as a "regular car", and Mercury actually charges me less for full coverage on it than they do on my more plebian "LBC support vehicle".

$118 increase monthly on my State Farm policy if I were to drive it regularly. My 03 Honda Element is $34/month. Full Coverage, mind you. Besides, my daughter is scared of it, and it does not have back seats.
 
Phew! Well, I guess the other reasons make it a moot point anyway. I don't have a bill handy to check, but my total bill is only around $100/month, for two Triumphs, a Buick & a Toyota.

But my kids don't live at home (and are specifically excluded from the policy), so that may be part of the difference.

A BIG part in most "regular" policies. Even if they live under the same roof, but don't drive them, it can cost you with some companies.
 
I just had a guy come by and check it out. I let him drive it, and he never took it over 2.5k rpm. He seemed scared of it :smile: so I took him for a drive :devilgrin: after, and ghost white, he stuttered a bit and said he would have to sleep on it.

Maybe its a bit faster than I thought...

Those were just a few examples that came up in a very quick search....i am not that familiar with Cocoa Beach and the surrounding counties. You'll probably find more knowing where to look. Keep us posted! :smile:

I'll ditto the LBC support thing.

It's spring and all the hardcore bikers are dumping their winter "i'm too old to ride through the winter any more" rides.

Bought a 90 celebrity wagon for $2K. Hadda fix the a/c but other than that.... If the oil light goes out you run it. If it blinks going around a hard right hand you dump two more in the top and run it some more.

Keep the Spit, the kids'll grow up. Had the same issue as you, older one now has his own car.
 
Pete, what I'd like to see in an ad is a picture of the whole car where the prospect can see the beautiful Spitfire lines. Roll it outdoors and get off to the side with the camera.
