I may have to sell...

If you have to sell the car, you will regret it but you can always get another one down the road. And I bet the next time you won't get a 1500 RB. Or at least I know I wouldn't if I had it to do over. JC

Man, I hear that... If I had a CB with the same condition / mods as my 1500, it'd be worth easily twice as much. Ah well, you live, you learn.

Pimple faced kid at the drive thru:

ummm... Mister, would you like fries & a 78 Midget with that burger?
Only a buck extra!

Of course I'm here in the Northwest where pretty nice RWA CB Spridgets can be had for less than $1500 practically every day.

Here's a nice little 67 Midget:

I sold a 70 BGT because I thought I had to.
I made a big mistake. I realized very soon after, that I didn't.
Trevor's advice is excellent.
Mickey's words are golden.

Sorry...meant Macbook Pro.

Yessir. Core 2 Dual 2.6 17 inch high res.

I got an incredible deal, but as the sole bread winner for the family, even an incredible deal is hard to manage.

I think the thing that bothers me most about the idea of selling my car is not getting rid of the car... it's that the car is not finished. It's embarrassing.

I agree with those who say keep the car, if at all possible. If you do decide to sell it, however, I'd return it reasonably close to stock. We all know the score, but the average guy probably will be wary of any major, homebrew modifications. That will inevitably show up in the price--in fact, you might get less for it with the FE than with a set of SUs.

Of course, one could make the case that the FE system might be appealing to a techie type (like me and a lot of other guys here, for example), but how many such people are there? Compared to the ordinary guys, I mean? When you're selling anything, the more you restrict your range of potential buyers, the less you'll get for the item. It's inevitable.

Can you return the computer?

Here's a thought.. can you "HOCK" your car to a member of this forum.. that is .. like lease it to them in some form so that you get the $$$$ now, they get the car now, .. when you get more $$$$ you swap back? there may be someone here with the liquidity. THAT way you only need get enough capitol to pay for the computer, not trying to get the full value of the car.... ? and you get to buy it back at the same low cost or perhaps 5% more? ..

Without going through all the quotes of previous posts, I think most of what needs to be said has been.

a) you can't get out what you put in
b) even if you could, you'd hate yourself for selling
c) taking it off the road temporarily could help.

another couple of thoughts

1) you might be able to use the Mac for some easy/ low end computing to pay it off - try church websites and/ or presentations.

2) tax season is soon upon us - since you should be able to deduct the computer, that should help pay it

3) while I've been there when $2700 has seemed a big hurdle, in the general scheme of things, it isn't and a couple months might sort it all out.

good luck

Bill -

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. Maybe the BCF has opened up another avenue; breaking some new ground!

Any takers?

Thanks guys.

The main reason I bought the computer was so I could take on more jobs outside my normal work.

With tax deductions, mothballing the car, one or two small jobs and selling some old computer equipment, I should be able to pay the new computer off before the end of the year.

In typical Morris fashion, I was over reacting.

Pulling the car off the road will also give me some time to do a lot of backlogged jobs (ie. cleaning up the wiring, building a new glove box, putting new seals on the rear axles) that will make the car easier to sell if I still feel the need in a few months.

However, I WILL be driving the car to the All British Car Day in 2 weeks!

...how about getting your children some acting/modeling gigs?

Nothing like making them "earn their keep".

Whooo, glad that is solved. Everyone needs a fun toy. Even if it is mothballed for a bit.
