I love it when I'm right!

Me also, but kind of looks like some have internal regulators and some do not. What do you need?

Ummm, I don't know. I'm sure the one we took out has an internal regulator...

Welcome to the world of alternators....

Anywhere between 5 & 1 wires, internal/external regulators, various mounting hardware & pulley configurations as well as a myriad of different plug & connection options.

Also, battery, field & stater connections can be labeled in a bewilderingly large number of ways.

The only thing that is standard is the PITA if you try to modify one to fit.........I have done this a few times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

Is there going to be a 'quick alternator fix' thread coming up?

I gave Chuck the info, he's going to John's tomorrow to work on Binabox, he can buy whatever. As long as it runs my car I really don't care at this point.

First do the 5 wire to 3 wire conversion... then swap in a 1993-1995 Saturn Alternator. 95-110 amps. About the same price as you were quoting for the nearly stock Fiesta conversion.

Both conversions can be found on MGBE forum... (not to take away from Basil's site... but I know you frequent both of them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The heck with the alternator all together.....

Just buy a couple more batteries & hook em up parallel.

Recharge as needed.

I don't know what it takes on a B to perform an alternator conversion but I did convert my Midget to a GM alternator and the operation wasn't too bad at all. Took me about 3 hours but most of that was because I was fiddling with the mounting bracket fussing over the alignment of the pulleys a bit too much. I'm very happy with the outcome and feel that it was one of the more positive things I've managed on the little car.
