I lost the sound in my computer!

No I didn't uninstall the original drivers as there was no mention of doing that. When this new card was installed, the original drivers seem to vanish. Only driver visible is the Audio IN driver, no play back drivers. ...

...The ATI install disk has no mention of audio settings or drivers, I find that very strange.
The ATI disk would only have video drivers, nothing for audio. What I was saying was:
1)uninstall the original video drivers with the original card in the computer.
2)Set your screen to a standard VGA mode
3) put your new ATI card in, then install the newest video drivers for your specific card from the ATI website.

If you don't uninstall the old drivers, there might be an old file that doesn't play nice with the new hardware.

I'll try it Greg, Thanks.

No, not necessarily. That particular card does have audio. That's the problem. It has an integrated audio controller to run audio through the HMDI interface. Some of the people with the same problem have had issues with the card trying to steal all the audio from the system for the HDMI interface. In that case it isn't a driver interface it's just a matter of resetting the default audio settings in the control panel.

I now have sound! I bought the program Driver Detective, let it scan the computer and it found and installed the missing audio drivers, then I had to re-enable on board sound. As they say, "all's well that ends well"!
