I Know I Shouldn't Have, But....

I have to ask why??

That is the most gutless period of Corvettes - around 200 BHP and damned near 2 tons street weight.

By far the least of the breed and not in great shape by the pics. As if you didn't have enough projects. Gotta get that will power thing looked at Tony (do I sound enough like a wife yet?) ;-)
Read through the whole thread, Bill....I'm not gonna do anything to it - I'm farming everything out, shop to shop.

& I'm not using that series engine but, instead, a tuned port injection Corvette engine that has almost twice the power of the L82 that came in it.

Plus, I like that body style.

&, yep, Bill you do sound a little like a wife....though I was shocked when I told Jerri I was coming home with it....she's not said one disparaging word - yet!

AUUUGGGHH! Tony has fallen to the dasrk side! A Corvette?! hehehehehe.
You're a brave man Tony. that thing looks BAD to me. Hope you have a ball with it.

AWK!!! YUCK!!! Spent today scraping that crappy red color off the body - almost finished doing that.

Ordered a new 1/3 front clip which is the complete driver-side front fender; also ordered a new front bumper & front under bumper spoiler today....think those are the major body panels that it'll be easier to bond new than repair.

Am thinking I might also order a new right rear quarter panel as I'm discovering some old fiberglass repair as I get down to the crappy gray primer.

My bodyman is gonna take it down to the original Corvette color before he bonds any new parts to the body; then he's gonna clean & paint the engine compartment.

I'm gonna use the original 350 Corvette 3-speed transmission & am gonna hook it up to the '86 Tuned Port Injection Corvette engine I got from a friend (well, a garage will do the installation); just ordered a '90-'91 Corvette computer and wiring harness so I can hook the TPI engine up & toss all the emissions stuff and the mass air crap.....they're also gonna do a little more powerful chip for the computer..I'll double the original horsepower!

Also ordered a high pressure in-line fuel pump and 3/8" lines (to injectors & return line).

Gotta stop on it for a few days to finish siome things in the garage upstairs gameroom....set up the surround sound system to the 37" TV in there yesterday - WOW!! Better than a movie theater!

Tony, Tony...if you wanted a glassfibre sports car with a V-8 engine, you should have let me know so I could quote you a good price on a Daimler. Weighs 1/2 as much & far more your style, and there's not one on every corner used car lot. :jester: :jester:

Had one, remember? And it was a blast to drive - but somebody wanted it more than me....waaay more!

Here's what the old 'vette looks like today:

Some of the worst customs I've ever seen were based on Vettes. I don't get it. I always thought vette's were best left visually stock and just modified mechanically. Of course my taste in vettes is expensive. meaning I only really like the old ones.. KA CHING!
Still, I've driven a few of the vintage that Tony has there, and they were fun. It ought to be a good ride all said and done. Just don't expect LBC-type handeling and braking.

Banjo, she'll be bone stock visually - even gonna use the original color!

But, underneath the hood, that's another thing all together.

Tony, I am SURE you know I just kidding with the Corvette Summer "thing"! I know you have MUCH better tastes than that!!!

I've had several Vettes including a '77. I was amazed at how good the handling on that car was & you can cover a ~lot~ of ground quickly. I don't think there were many LBC's that'd stay with it on most roads. The brakes were fine.

Straight line performance was adequate but more sound than fury.

My only real issue with the car's performance was ground clearance - on any sort of interesting roads it was constantly bottoming out, usually on the muffler clamps.

In 77, you didn't buy the Vette for performance. You bought it for "other" reasons.

In 77, yea it did. Not that I'm old enough to know of such things you know....

& today after I got home from the VA:

New fiberglass body panels are on order & I want to get it down to where the body can be stripped to the original factory paint.

But, you know what? I'm beginning to think 1979 MGB Vermillion Red would look good on it?

Oh, it was a paint reference pic - I thought it was the most dramatic before & after ever
