Just stumbled across this:

8) Light Therapy
Getting enough sunlight has been shown to be effective for seasonal mood changes that happen in the darker winter months.

Exposure to light in the morning helps the body's sleep/wake cycle work properly. Production of serotonin, a brain chemical that key in influencing our mood, is turned on in the morning upon exposure to light. During the winter when there is less sunlight, serotonin levels can drop, making us feel tired and prone to seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

"Take two LBC's and call me in the morning"

Try a winter up here in Vermont - and you will no more about SAD then you would care to.

I lived in Alaska for 50 years...we called it "cabin fever"...lots os suicides close to Spring. Go figure that one out !

Yup. 's why I HATE winter.

Winter- BooooooooHissssssss :nonod:

SAD is for real. A few years ago we bought a house that has our bedroom on the western side. Won't make that mistake twice.

And you're SOUTH of friends of mine near Manchester... They RUN from the place in the winter.

GET OUT!! :jester:

I mostly stay inside with the blinds down to keep the sun out during the summer. I don't think it would bother me much.

PS: I'm thinking about moving to Maine anyway, so...

No wonder I'm so tired and crabby for the first 2 hours at work... Then the sun comes up.

Oh it is not so bad as long as you are aware of it. get in the sun when it shines- there are some very nice days even in the dead of winter- heck i have even been sunburned in Febuary.

I knew that... It doesn't affect everyone the same way, some people get SAD hard, has never bothered me at all, I don't mind winter except for the very short days... Going to work in the dark and heading home in the dark... And I've had the odd bout of cabin fever, heading out on a cold day (all bundled up of course) just to get out of the house...

I don't let a cold day stop me from getting out of the house, cold as in perhaps -27 Celcius...

Seriously? We should talk...

For me it's not so much winter, it's Mud season. March, April, and usually May are unbearable. There is no Spring here. That's how it gets ya...ayup. :nopity:

I've heard that the 5th season is the killer.

I'll put it this way: I'm not eagerly searching with a "gotta move gotta move" attitude, but there have been decent opportunities and I love Maine - but I have commitments here too. I am going to go check out the company and the area next month though, it would be just north of Bangor.

Live in Florida, vacation in Maine. That's what God intended.

Have you been that far north in Me. before? Not a whole lot up there but tater fields and great northern paper land.

Many people would say the reverse is equally true. The "grass is always greener" applies.

Yup, I have  I'm looking closer to town though, not way up north.
