mycleanpc.com is a scam!

Those rats bait you in w/ $39 to "fix" your pc and next thing you know it costs more to actually have it cleaned. I feltlike I was at a carnival. "Step right up!"

They take your cake and then are like: "oh, you got stuff on your pc, you need a tech, let's see what plan fits you best".

Tha't simple, the plan where I cancel and you refund my $$$$.

Then, I spend an hour trying to get their crap off my box so it'll work again.

I knew better but that doesn't mean I'm any less of an idiot :wall:

Well.....at least I'm an honest idiot :wall: :wall: :wall:

Consider yourself edumacated on this one. Ask us first

I'm amazed they still have commericals on TV for that "product". The internet has been littered with complaints about what it does for a long time now.

Sorry Gregg. I hope it didn't cost you many $$$'s. When it comes to the puter I only trust local. As to free software I research before loading because I don't feel at ease with 'free.'

Strangely enough I just happen to have a nice bridge for sale in your area!

I got sucked in (almost) by one of their commercials. Ran the free online check on a fairly new box, known to be reasonably clean. Test found something over 300 problems and offered to fix them all for only $$$ (can't remember the price). I figured scam at that point. People like that shouldn't be allowed to exist.

Don't worry Judy, I didn't load that software. I'm always leary of claims to "increase your speed". There are things you can do like turn off the swap file (if you have enough ram) or set it to a single size so Windows doesn't try to resize it while you're doing something. Most of the speed increases come from the BIOS though, and Windows programs can't really touch that as far as I know.

Yep ... 300 files THEY insert into your system so they can convince you to purchase their product. There ought to be a law!
or better yet it`s too bad that someone can`t write a program that upon detection of malicious files being inserted into a machine the program would flat out eat the offending machines lunch! no mercy!

My only comment...

ccleaner will do a good enough job for you. No financial interest. Wait a minute, it's free.

Oh and for Malware, MalwareBytes. Also free.

These are not scams.

I've got both but they don't find anything and something is definatly in my box.

The problem is "my cleanpc" was installed as malware. A virus protection probably won't recognize it as such. Try googling "mycleanpc scam removal" and see if there is a cure. Good luck. I'd mention doing a harddrive wipe (after file backup), but I had that go wrong for me recently. XP refused to load back onto a computer it had been on for 6 years. Finally gave up and loaded 64 bit Fedora v 15. Yep Doc, that's # 2.

...one machine at a time! :smirk:

Billy: go to TrendMicro after booting into "safe mode with networking" and run housecall.
