I just had a brain storm

Some place I saw pics of the rubber trick and it was invisable from the exteror.

Just thought I'd add these to inspire you Jack (not my car though...I wish!!)!! I used the little rubber hold-down thingies. They are not the "prettiest" set-up, but simple and effective. They also tend to hold the sides in (which have a tendency to splay out a bit!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Stainless is not the easiest thing to work with. I made a couple of sets out of stainless and it really took a toll on my band saw blade and endmill. (And these were carbide tipped tools).

Why would you spend the $200? If I made them out of Aluminum I would think I'd have about $40 in materials and hardware.

latches from a Spitfire, but mount them inside the car.
That's exactly what I was considering doing. It has the advantages that it's completely invisible from the outside, it's somewhat tamper-proof, it holds the sides in. Disadvantage; requires releasing two latches from inside the car, but the car is small enough that they could be do-able from the driver's seat.

The latches must however be mounted up-side-down - the latching hook must point down to hold the bonnet down. Though I don't think that's a problem.

hmm, those are the straps I had in mind, wonder where I could mount them that they were not seen. Thinking.........

My opinion... Keep it stock now that you have a nice little car. However, if you do the forward flip, I'm interested in how it turns out for ya. I made mine into a forward flip, but the bonnet seems too flimsy for that setup. I'm going to have to figure something else out. Maybe some sort of stiffeners or guide tracks, but the single pivot deal is not working for me right now.

Trevor,
I was considering alum. but had the source of having someone else make them for me. I figure, why not stainless if it is free. :smile:1/8" stanless should be sturdy enough.

Yup, I went to the scrap pile looking for aluminum and ended up with stainless. Geesh that stuff is a lot harder to work than I remember. Of course... I really don't know what grade it is. It may end up cracking on me. Then again, I may not use them anyway.

I made two sets and gave one set away. I have one set on the car now, but I'm not sure if I can me it to work to my satisfaction. If not, I'm sure someone will take them off my hands. (Just another Saturday lost...)

I could use a set of hinges for my new bonnet too. I could always just order the speedwell hinges when I order the bonnet I suppose.

For the price of the bonnet, they should give you a steep discount on the hinges.

Yep, I think something close to that will do the trick.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif That Dzuz fastner set-up is very nice and unobtrusive! I may have to consider scrapping the "Jeep" type hold-downs I have now in favour of that! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif
