Got the lenses off, and cleaned all the contacts. Still nothing. So I pulled out the switch and went to clean off the contacts there. One of the wires was connected with a bad solder joint--was really not connected. So I put on a spade connector and cleaned off the contacts. Hooked up power, flipped the switch, and blinky winky went the signals. First fix for the Tunebug. Of course, I also manage to make one of the low beams stop working, but who's counting.

Maybe you can only have so many lights working at one time... just have to pick the important ones at any given time. It could be a game you could play with your passenger--no, touch the red wire... yes that one over there... no, not that one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I can definitely see the benefits of a new wiring harness. The one in the car is 45+ years old and not too healthy. Will come soon, I think.

I don't blame Lucas for my current (haha) electrical problems. 45 year old cloth wrapped wiring--it's pretty amazing that anything works at all. A good careful rewiring and the electrics should outlast me. Not like there are all that many wires to begin with. I'm sure a pro could rewire the whole car in a few hours. Meaning it should only take me a week or so. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
 
Drew, British Wiring has new harnesses that incorporate wire with modern insulation, overwrapped with the correct cloth braid. Looks original.
You should be able to string a new harness in an afternoon.

It usually takes me longer to UNwire the old harness than to refit the new one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Funny how that works, innit?
 
you'd think with all the extra wire I have on my car from being DPO'd I could just build a new harness in situ.

Or I like to think of it as a insurance policy... Headlights stop working? No problem... I have no less than 3 extra wires running to either side /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
