how does one go about it? What I really need is a tub that has been sandblasted but not yet primed, so you can see what's really going on. eBay? Craigslist?

I am trying to have my wrecked TR6 re-created on a different frame/tub....essentially a ground-up resto. From a cost standpoint, finding a stripped tub would be best case scenario.

I have exactly what you're looking for. Sorry, I plan on finishing it maybe even this year. Keep checking eBay and craigslist. Tubs and frames show up there often. Good luck.

If that's what you really want, I think you'd need to a: arrange to view the tub as it's being sandblasted, with an eye towards b: getting it primed ASAP. It's really not a good thing to leave sheet metal bare for any length of time: I've seen one damp overnight leave freshly bare sheet metal with a coating of rust....

When I was there about 5 years ago, they had one, it was $10K, and it really wasn't for sale.
 
You really do not want a tub that has been sandblasted as it can damage and or distort the body panels. Pretty much any type of blasting media except baking soda can cause damage. It's OK for a frame. The preferred methods are hand stripping, dipping or soda blasting. The nice part about soda blasting is the raw metal does not need to be primed right away to prevent rust.

Good luck finding a good tub, and if you find a source let me know as I could use one too.
 
bricktop, I have a frame from a '73 and a rear clip, "B" pillar back, both excellent, no rust holes. I am doing the frame right rear holder bolt for the read end in a few days, better than new, with reinforcement casing on top. If you were hit in the rear and it didn't get past the rear of the doors this will be a great way to use a lot of your car. I'm about 45 miles north of Charlotte.

Thanks for the response. I'm gonna have to ask for the reply in all newbie terms! So, you have a frame that you are making some upgrades to and then you also have a "clip"? I'm a little lost after the frame....sorry, I'm such a noob and obviously I'm not going to be doing any of the work on this project. I will just be writing the checks!

Carter, a rear clip has all the main body parts, boot led, fenders. I can get rear brackets for the bumper. As for the bumper, I have a couple but not later model ones, even have a set with Amco sissy bars. Can you PM me with a phone number and I will give you a call.
