Bugsy just got the third coat of Rustoleum applied. I changed the last mixture to a 75% paint 25% mineral spirits mixture and rolled it on. I was having trouble getting coverage with green over primer after 2 coats of 50/50 mixture. The added paint totally covered and I think I may need t odo one more coat on the D.S. Fender but compared to what I had this is fabulous difference in how Bugsy looks. I will comment that with a 75/25 mixture the paint dries must, much faster and you will need to do tipping with a dry roller as the air bubbles that form and just disappear with a 50/50 mixture don't dissapear as rapidly. Going back over a painted area about 15-20 minutes with a dry roller popped any remaning bubbles and smoothed things out.
With a 50/50 mixture paint seemed quite runny, well it is of course but I think the process of building up a base of really thin paint and then going over it with a 75/25 mixure seemed to work real well. Gloss is there under the lights at this point and paint is fairly smooth. Yes it will need to be carefully wet sanded but the results so far compared to my BRG, Grey Primer. Black Primer, and Rust are fabulous.
Paint consumption - A tiny 1/2 pint can of Rustoleum cut 50/50 was enough to do the entire hood and fender twice and probably could have squeaked out a 3rd time.
I did buy a quart of Gloss Hunter Green for $7.29 plus a 1/2 pint of same for $3.69. Some foam rollers for < $10.00 and sandpaper $<10.00. Bondo was in the garage already but a can of Bondo is < $10.00. So far $35-$40 invested plus about 8-10 hours of time on hood and fenders. No it is not perfect but again front end is now a 10-20 footer prior to wet sanding.
