I got nailed in Marysville,CA,just
North of Sacramento.No cross traffic,& a lot
of congestion/distractions.I wasn't speeding.
The guy next to me sped up,but I got nailed.
$435 for the ticket,$30 for the company that
handles tickets for the rental car company,&
$49 to go to traffic school,so it doesn't go
on my driving record = $515!!
If I had chosen to do so,is there any way
of having a chance of fighting it,& winning?
They also have a video,& still pictures of me
driving,as well as the vehicle license.

That's them heaviest number I have ever seen for that

Get a lawyer or good legal advice and fight it.

If you're innocent, fight it. Bummer, since you allegedly did nothing wrong.

Good luck, let us know . . .

It's called revenue enhancement and it's only going to get worse as Big Brother tries to get deeper into your pockets for cash to run the city departments. If they have all that information about you, they have it on him too. It would be interesting to find if they ticketed him, or just you.

Hey just be happy that California hasn't figured out that you can nail you with a huge up front fine and then hit you again and again with a annual driving fee to keep your license till it drops off your record.

Guilty.

It's odd that the first photo was taken before a violation occurred. I guess the camera runs continuously and erases photos say after 20 seconds if no one runs the light?

I've got a GOOD traffic attorney - don't ask me why! LOL - and called him when our babysitter got tagged by one of those cameras. He said to just pay the fine - pretty much non-arguable. I think the ones here only get you for $75 - $515 IS mighty steep!

Maybe the photo is better quality.

I don't know if those cameras are run continuously, but perhaps they are triggered by a motion sensor when the light turns red, therefore the car in motion (obviously not stopping for the red light!) is snapped as it enters the field in motion when it should be at rest or coming to a stop!!??
Maryland seems to have reasonable penalties given the futility of fighting the citation. California seems more bent on revenue-generation than curbing a safety problem!!

*SIGH*
No wonder my little obscure, three stoplights town in Utah is becoming influxed by Californians!
They all want to get away from Californias long arm of the law.

Entrepreneurs need to get busy inventing ....... camera jammers!

B.T.W. Mesa Verde is fantastic I could recomend the trip to anyone

Beautiful scenic Southern Colorado is awesome!
I will be home sometime late in the week ..... sees y`all then.

Husband got caught speeding with the 'red light camera.' Biggest problem was he blamed it on me and lucky for me I keep a pretty good calendar and it showed that he had a doctor's appointment at about that time and that is the street he needed to take to get there. Not only did he have to eat humble pie but he got to pay the fine that was over $100.00. He also spoke with an attorney who said he just aught to pay it. The only difference between his ticket and yours was that it didn't affect our insurance as it was a 'city ticket' and a city ordinance and as such wasn't recognized by the state. While this didn't make sense to me I didn't argue the point. And your ticket sure is expensive - hardly seems fair. Probably shouldn't say this but he bought special plate covers that obscure the license so the numbers can't be photographed. He did this on all the cars except the Healey which I think is too low to be seen. He found the plates by googling. We're told that nothing can be done about it as we are not city residents and the plates can be read by the eye so it doesn't present any problem except to the cameras.

Mythbusters did a thing on different ways to beat the cameras. The plate covers didn't hide the plates at all. The only thing that seemed to work was driving a Lamborghini through at 170 MPH. Yeah, I know the show isn't science, but there ya' go.

I saw on another forum that Colorado is up in arms about all the people from Utah coming in. :jester:

At least they are impartial! My brother-in-law who is a Denver Police Officer got nailed by one of the mobile speed cameras! Having a badge didn't help much when the ticket came in the mail! LOL

In Colorado you can ignore the ones that come in the regular mail. Traffic summons must be issued in person. So if it comes by registered mail or private courier and anyone in the household over 18 signs for it, it is considered issued in person. The ticket is also issued to the registered owner of the vehicle but if the person in the photo is not the registered owner, then the ticket is void.

Check your rights in your own locals. If, like in Colorado, the summons must be issued in person, make them spend the extra money to get yours.

The state of Mississippi made them illegal last year after MUCH disscussion about their constitutional legality. Seems that the ticket issued is not "legally" a ticket, but a bill payable and due to someone who THINKS you did something. IF it's issued by a police person after they have SEEN you do it, thats legal. A picture issued in the mail by someone in a whole other state who is NOT law enforcement is NOT legal IMHO.

In Ohio, they get around the requirement that traffic tickets be issued by a police officer, by calling the 'camera ticket' a CIVIL infraction, rather than a CRIMINAL (traffic) violation. Like Twoshed's citation in Maryland, they don't assess points against your license; they merely want to relieve you of your money. If you don't pay, another CIVIL penalty attaches, like the inability to renew your license plates.

angliagt, man that fine is the heavyest ive seen, look at it this way he might of also hit you with some kinda "smog" thingy as well being in calif. and all.
