Finishin' out th' new "laundry room/sewing facility" so my garage space is MINE again.

Gotta run washer drainage, hot water tank supply, washer and dryer electric, separate all with doors both from outside (with alarm sensors) and inside th' garage...

Whadda PITA!!

...and TILE th' silly thing, too.

Home "ownership" is a slippery slope!!

All I wanted was my garage back. :shocked:

I never much minded plumbing. Actually, drain/waste pipe work is pretty easy with modern Schedule 40 plastic pipe, etc.

I still like copper for water supply, and I admit that, since the advent of lead-free solder, I'm not nearly as good at joining pipe as I used to be....
 
So houses suffer from shipswright disease too?!! :laugh:
 
Puttin off a similar project here. I'd like to put the washer and dryer on the enclosed back porch, and get them out of the basement. Likewise I'd need to run hot and cold water, drain, electric, and gas. maybe later.....
 
Did a similar project last year, turned a useless bathroom into a very small laundry room. My plan was to just take out a few tiles and then redo. In the end I found a major leak from the waste pipe and wound up taking the floor out, and removing all the wall tiles. Eventually I had someone come in and rebuild the floor and walls for me. Flooring with sand, cement and the like just is not fun.
 
Plumbing's not that bad. My weapon of choice is MAP gas to heat that copper up good and hot!

I did this exact project a couple years back. In my case tool a useless storeroom and tiny laundry, knocked out the wall between them and doubled the size of the laundry. My biggest hassle was the stupid way in whichthebuilders laid out the pipe. Here in AZ wehaveconcrete pads instead of basements, and I had to cut 3 footwidetrenchesin the pad to veto underneath to reroute plumbing.

Two things added that were almost an afterthought, but easily the best improvements: big utility sink & powerful (but quiet exhaust fan. We've used that sink to was everything from the baby to carburetors. And the exhaust fan saves us from the wife's stinky cats after a visit to the cat box.

Map gas is the way to go. I was a plumber for about 6 years and ran everything from 1/4" up to 6" pipe in copper for supply & DWV, or steel (Gas) mostly all of it done by myself. I was a great trade to learn and probably one of my favorites. If I were closer doc I'd be all over it.

But seriously, folks...now that I have a MAPP gas torch as well as a propane, I'll try it next time I solder copper pipe and see if it works better.
