I got parts

I received bearing and rings a couple days ago. I will pick up the block at the machine shop next week and start re-assembly.

This is the first engine rebuild for me in about 30 years. I have a Bentley and a parts book so I think I will be OK.

Any tips or advice before I get started???

Thanks, Pete

Pete , check the fit on everything: piston skirts, ring gap, bearing clearance etc. so that when you reassemble start with the crank and rotate the crankshaft after every rotating part is installed so that you are aware of its feel. Kevin

I'd say read everything that you intend to do a couple nights before and again the night before.
The Bentley skips around a lot. It might say something like "install the timing cover", but somewhere else in the chapter, there will be the exact procedure step by step for installing the timing cover along with the seal, sprockets and spacers. Just using that as an example.
So you really have to jump around in the Chapter.
Take your time, do it in stages and enjoy your progress. Take pictures for your grand kids... . and us.

I totally agree with the rotate by hand, do this after you fit each main bearing cap (assuming motor is upside down on stand) each rod bearing, etc. better to feel any problems by hand than with the starter or running. Double and triple check everything is installed and torqued down before going to the next step.

Carefull with the rings, they can snap on install, don't ask me how I know!

Don't rush or force, if something doesn't fit or turn or whatever step back, take a break and figure out why.
