I got my duals!

Now someone tell me I:
A) bought the wrong thing
B) paid way too much
C) both the above
D) other

I still need headers, right? And to get it rebuilt? And still need to break it to dahubby (he is so loving all these projects I have for him)

I had TOTALLY forgot I bid on these the first day they were posted. Until I got an 'outbid' notice today. Bid again and 'wallah' I have my dual SUs.

Okay. I'm a big girl, I can take it. How bad did I get taken on this?

Re: I got my duallys!

$71 seems like a fair price for twin SUs with intake manifold. It may be a good idea to have them rebuilt before putting them on the car.

Yes, you'll need exhaust headers or manifold to go with them. Either this:

or a Peco header should do the trick...

Re: I got my duallys!

Oooh PECO?
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I thought it was a fair price too, when I started adding things up.

Yes, will def do a rebuild. A rebuild kit is $150 or so I think. mgdoc in our car club sends his carbs to a guy in Bartlesville OK that does the rebuild for $220. But I'm HOPING a couple guys in the club will help dahubby rebuild them or my bil that is a mechanic will help.

Gotta keep dahubby busy during the winter months ya know! (next project is the od tranny)

Re: I got my duallys!

You know, I've come to the realization that bits for my MG excite me more than jewelry and clothes and cologne.

WHAT would my fellow females say if they knew??? (other than racinggirl and randi, that is)

My entire Christmas list (once again) is made up of bits and pieces for The B.

Re: I got my duallys!

They look like MGB SU's! HS4's! lol! Hard to tell what year, I see the anti run on valves so it must be a late 60's early '70's car. Probably early 70's with the vaccume advance on the manifold v. the carb, I'm not sure when that changed.

A Peco header is good, but I would vote for a stock cast iron header and a falcon stainless exhaust. The Peco is loud and all the paint will peel off.

If da' hubby doesn't rebuild them, check out Joe Curto. He is the SU God. Buy your rebuild kit from him.

Re: I got my duallys!

And when I stay stock header, I mean one off a '72 or earlier Chrome bumper car. They flow just as good as the peco and are much cheaper, but sure are heavy when it comes to shipping. Avoid a '73-74 header as the flanges are slightly smaller and won't work with your new SU manifold.

Oh, btw - Joe Curto is quite popular and might be backed up for weeks or months if you decide to use him, but rebuilding SU's is fairly easy, the tricky part is if the throttle shafts need to be rebushed. That has to be done at a machine shop. If your lucky maybe you can just get away with new shafts.

Re: I got my duallys!

When we were having the issue a month or so ago with the noise and extreme heat on the floorboard, I was looking at new exhausts (when we first thought that was the problem) and as much as I like the sound of a Peco, we did decide on either the Falcon or another - can't remember. As it was, wasn't the exhaust system, was - I forget now, something to do with where the header comes into the manifold, flange something or else. Hehe, pitiful, aren't I? Dahubby would remember. I don't 'store' things like that once it's taken care of!

I emailed Joe Curto for a price on a rebuild kit. Thanks for the heads up on that.

And thanks for the link to ebay. I showed it to dahubby and he is pretty sure his buddy can weld the spot where the screw came out. Then he can 'rethread' the screws and do the other stuff.

YAY!
~doing the happy happy dance~

At this rate, I'll have him convinced I need a paint job by next summer!

Bwahahahahahaha!

Re: I got my duallys!

John, did you look at the link Nunyas gave me in the post above?

(dahubby can machine just about anything we put in front of him)

Re: I got my duallys!

Yep, that is a cast iron header off a chrome bumper car. A good choice. One if it's off a 73 or 74, it would be a problem as the flanges wouldn't mount up with your SU manifold.

" I think it fits from 1975 to 1980 but check with your local dealer to be sure ( It may fit other year's or car's )"

LOLOLOL It will fit a 75 to 80 or any year for that matter, but good luck finding a local dealer! This guy has no idea what year it's from. Ask him this... if the flange is 5/8" then it will match your SU header.

Re: I got my duallys!

Yea, the guy really doesn't have a clue. But if I can pick it up for $10-20 and shipping would be worth it. IF it will fit. I'm afraid the guy may NOT know what the flange is...

Re: I got my duallys!

Nice score off of ebay. I would second going with the earlier manifold instead of the pico as the pico is most definately louder. Not to mention they smoke up a storm the first time you start up the car and stink for a while after.

The littlest things make me happy these days!

Re: I got my duallys!

Nunyas gave me this link (you enabler you!) Dahubby thinks he can 'fix' it. Probably cost $15 or less to ship. What's a max bid on this? Guy has $75 buy it now, but hasn't had one bid. I'm thinking a $10 bid can't hurt anything.

I've been thinking too much lately.

Re: I got my duallys!

75 bucks doesnt sound to bad. Clean that manifold up and put some new studs in and you should be good to go.

Re: I got my duallys!

OK, Jaybird, so you're going to need a trip to Alexandria and the nation's capital - might be less than freight charges.

Re: I got my duallys!

Road trip? Someone mention ROAD TRIP?

Got it covered Rad, I've already checked shipping costs in advance.

Re: I got my duallys!

jaybird,
i could be wrong, but wont you also need a driveshaft?

mark

Re: I got my duallys!

Well JB, That manifold will require WELDING before you can install it.??Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Re: I got my duallys!

Got that covered too Keoke. Already have that covered. Welded where it's broken out, rethread the screws, clean it up. Already have that lined up if I win the auction. My husband worked in a machine shop for 32 years. He can do everything but weld. HOWEVER, a couple of his best friends are welders. Couple pizzas, 12 pack of beer, and wallah!

Driveshaft? I don't need no stinking driveshaft.
((do I???))

Not til I get the tranny, right?

Donor car is sounding better every day!
