So my 16 year old son calls me as I’m leaving work (45-60min drive) and tells me that there’s some guy kind of hanging around our house. Said when he got home the guy was in front of our house. Now at first the guy didn’t see my son so he just goes into the house. A few minutes later Matt’s sitting in our living room and sees the same guy open our gate to our back yard and starts to enter when he sees my son watching him. After that the guy turns around and acts as if he’s leaving but stops half way down the driveway. When he sees my son (now looking through the front kitchen window) watching him he turns & continues on. When my son looks again he says the guy’s gone.
When he finishes relaying this information to me, I tell him to keep the doors locked but keep an eye open should this person return. And should he return – to CALL 911! Tell the cops what’s going on, go to the back room & wait for the cops or me to get there.
Fast forward (I’m still a good 5 minutes from home) my son calls me on his cell phone to tell me he’s on the house phone with the 911 operator because now the guys sitting in our front yard and the sheriff is sending a unit over.
Well I beat the cops there by about two minutes and sure enough the guys still in our front yard hiding along the side of the yard next to the neighbor’s 7 foot hedge. First thing he does when he sees me is put his finger to his lips as if to hush a child. Having none of that I immediately spoke up and said “you’re on my property” & then said “can I help you?” At this point he stands up and starts to explain that he’s just checking up on his wife next door and that he didn’t mean any harm. At that point he was about 5 paces away and I told him to stop & not to come any closer. He tried to explain himself but when I told him that he scared the crap out of my son and that the cops where on the way. To that he said well I’ll explain myself to the cops when they get here as he started walking away.
BTW I had a 13” crescent wrench behind my back.
Anyway the walked away & shortly after he disappeared around the corner the cops finally arrived.
After the sheriffs got there the whole story came out. Turns out this nut case was indeed the estranged husband of my next door neighbor. Who’re in the middle of a heated divorce.
Great as if I ain’t got enough problems of my own now I’m stuck in the middle of a family dispute.
