I find the flashing banner annoying.

That <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> odd, if you're seeing them here...I know the type of cheezy flashing <span style="font-size: 17pt"><span style="font-family: 'Algerian'"><span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="color: #CC33CC">you've won!!!</span></span></span></span></span> ads elsewhere, on other (less reputable) sites. The only ads I've ever seen on the BCF are those tasteful little banners in the top right. And I've found them really useful. I'm running an average Internet Explorer, and I'm not blocking anything that I know of.

And yeah, this is kinda a Pub conversation.

That's weird, could I have picked something else up somewhere else?

If you look close, underneath it has some reg vendor in blue but really small.

Basil, what's up with this????

Is it just my machine?

Could you move this thread please?

It could certainly be possible your machine is infected. You should run a malware scan ASAP.

Try this malware program.

but seriously, it does sound like yours is infected. none of us do have this - really. bleepingcomputer.com is another place to check.

I do NOT have any such flashing banners on my forum. If you are seeing something pop-up, it is coming from either another site or possibly spy-wear or ad ware that has been maliciously installed on your system when you visited some site (not this one!). The only banners I have are the ones for the supporting vendors: Spridget Mania, British Parts NorthWest, Deves Piston Rings, Jag Bits, TheAutoist (Tony B) etc. If you are seeing anything about "click here to win" it is not coming from this site. If that is the case I recommend you get a good Spy-ware or Ad-ware program and do a thorough scan of your system. I use Ad Aware and like it a lot, but there are many good programs out there.

As for membership - there is no requirement for a membership, but if a member wishes to support the forum, look under "My Stuff" then Click subscriptions where you can find a description (what extras you get) of the different levels and subscribe to whichever level you wish (if any), but again this is completely voluntary.

Kelly, you're computer is infected with something you got somewhere else. I have never seen the banner you are describing except when my computer was infected. Never here.

I figured you wouldn't have anything like that here, that's why I was suprised, and if it was here, you didn't know about it. ( I don't understand how the whole banner thing works, so please excuse my ignorance. I know they're paid for, but not how they get there. I didn't know if a vendor could change ad content w/o you knowing)

It was a stab at the "offending vendor", not you. Please note nothing was addressed to you. Even though I'm in sales, I HATE pitches, especially ones that assume I'm a complete idiot. I don't pitch. That's what got me so torqued off; as if someone was stupid enough to think that "it" would work here. I was hoping upon the vedor's return; they would be greeted by an angry mob.....pitch forks and all.

......OH, and THAT dress thing...... THAT DID IT !!!!!!

Thinking I was the first to notice this (well..now knowing the ONLY one), I felt it was my "duty" to address this matter as quickly (and bluntly) as possible. I was merely "defending" the integrity of the site.

(uhs suthreners aint tak'n' tu kindlee 2 folks messin' 'round wit r relayshuns aneehow.)

I have scanned and repaired w/ Regcure SEVERAL times and deleted my cookies and temp files, but it STILL does it. I have ad aware, but stopped using it as it seemed Regcure worked better. I'll try the other stuff y'all recommended.

Now it says something about shutterfly. I wish y'all could see what it's doing. Now it REALLY makes me angry that someone put something on my machine that takes up real estate that a supporting vendor paid for........even if I'm the only one who sees it.

I've been spending a good bit of time on facebook promoting a t shirt (Saints) that I designed. Maybe I got it from there.

Freakin' facebook !!!! I have avoided that thing like the plauge for a reason. Last time I listen to a friend about marketing!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. Hopefully that'll work.

Anyway, drinks and dresses on me !!!!

what size you guys wear????

Take a screen print and post it so we can see what you're talking about.

o.k, how do I do that?

Well, this assumes you have some sort of imaging software for pictures, like Photoshop or something similar. What you would do is, while your display has one of these weird banners displayed, press the "Print Screen" button on your PC keyboard. Then, open your imaging software and click file "New File" then Ctrl-V on your keyboard to "Paste" the image into a new file. Then save your picture and give it a name. It will probably be too large in file size to post here without re-sizing, but you can email the picture file to me. to the following address:

bcfadmin@britishcarforum.com

Note, if you don't have a picture or image program to create the file, try opening a new email message and
ctrl=V to Paste the image directly into the body of the email.

Malwarebytes, SUPER AntiSpyware, Spybot Search and Destroy. All have free versions and all work manually. All the 'puters that leave my shop have them installed.

Looks like I might have it fixed. Installed malware but it ran really slow. reset to Nov 4 and all seems well but when I fire it up w/ yahoo as a home page, my browser bar still has all the %%&%^*$&$^&%(*&()&)(&_ looking stuff in there like it's being rerouted. No nore facebook for me !!!!

Yahoo as a home page might be part of the problem!

Yeah, set this (below) as your home page.
