For over 10 years I have had some of my slot car collection on display at America On Wheels Museum. My collection went back to the early 1960's, but there was an earlier car I wanted for my collection, and to display at the museum.
In 1912, the Lionel Manufacturing Company introduced their electric model racing cars. Using modified Standard-gauge track, two cars ran side-by-side on cocentric circles. The approximately 1/24 scale cars earned J. Lionel Cowen his first patent in the toy field. These cars were in production until 1916, with their electrical pick-up system and guidance systems improving during the production run.
This past year I picked up one of these Lionel cars and a piece of track. It was repainted a long time ago, but that was fairly common even with the old Lionel trains.
