I did some measuring...it WILL fit in my garage...

Good. Sounds like it's in the right hands. You obvously understand what you have there (unlike the PO from the looks of things). I fully agree with your plans (not that my opinion means anything).
I had the honor of working on TS812. It was an awsome car, but it went to a young man who diden't really grasp what it was. He was looking for a TR3 when he saw this one that was within his budget. It's always haunted me, as that car was extremely original.
I've got a good feeling about your's though.
Mine's a late 54, a short door. it's number 5012.

Meehehehehehehe... That sounds fun.
Nothing wrong with modifications, and like I said, I'm just fulla air. My opinion don't mean squat. It's your car. Sorry if I got a bit excited. (Long door 2s are kinda my favorite, if ya can't tell)
My 2 is gonna get a TR4A motor. that's because I diden't get the original motor, and I happened to have a TR4A parts car.
I also plan on using the disc brakes off the TR4A, and upgrading the weak original rear axle with the small brakes (same as yours) with a TR3 unit. but all my mods will be 100% Triumph, and not visually much different from original.
One of the POs also put 2 rows of louvers in the bonnett, but I kinda like them, and they were put there in the late 50s so they're kinda period anyway. So they're gonna stay. at least for now.
And, all the original parts will be carefully stored for possible future need, as I'm not doing anything irreversable.
I still say it's more important to have fun and drive 'em. Do what's gonna make it enjoyable and safe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I redo my '60 TR3 it will probably a little different...flared fenders, louvered hood, TR2 front apron, chopped windscreen...like yours, nothing that can't be changed back to original.

[/ QUOTE ]Did I mention the California Black Plate?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is one of my soap box issues, so please forgive me.

The California black plate was first issued in 1963. From 1956 to 1962 California issued yellow plates. These replaced a large letter black and yellow plate that had been issued annually since WWII.

Beautiful car and I envy you, but the black plate only indicates that it was registered in California sometime after 1963 and before (I think) 1970.

Have fun with your car!

You are correct-o-mundo! The "black plate" reference was simply to state that it had OLD Califonia plates...and I believe this was an original California delivery.

Re: I did some measuring...it WILL fit in my garag

California Black plates started with the
letter "A" at the very top of the state,
ending up with the letter "Z" at the very
Southern part,so the car was probably from
the North LA area (maybe even Santa Barbara).
