I DID IT - IT HAD TO BE DONE...

Sun was out on a cloudless north Alabama afternoon with temperature in the mid-50's....

...there was 1/4 tank of gas that needed to be run out or treated....so I rolled both windows down, flipped the quarter windows completely outward, took off my coat....& took the '67 MGB GT for a final, year-end spin....

...with a steady 60psi of oil pressure & as the temperature warmed up to 180, I feathered the choke all the way off & she settled in and just purred - & purred - & purred....before I knew it, the gas guage was hovering on 'Empty' & it was time to tuck her away for the winter months.

SIGH.................

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

I mind!

With an empty tank, I worry about condensate. J.M.H.O. But I would rather fill her up to the brim and use the treatment.

Excellent year-end story! Wish the roads didn't have snow-melt around here, or I'd do the same.

BTW - I agree with Kerry on the empty tank situation.

Went out to the garage and Miss Agatha was naping but not for long.

About 20 miles out to Chatchtaw Beach and back. 45 where it said 45 and 60 where it said 60, nice nice ride. Just what was ordered. Found nothing to do upon return accept adjust the choke cable a bit. Was a bit too long.

Still have the clutch problem shifting at high RPM but am starting to think it is the Master Cylinder. Noted one time I had no pedel when slowing for a red light. I know, I know, it was rebuilt with all new brass inards by White Post but I am still leaning that way, brake side is fine. Guess one of these days when I feel up to it it is going to have to come out for a look see.

Durn, does that engine run fine, I am so pleased. Strong and sounds great. Revs quickley as well, another 30 HP would make her jump right out of her shell. In fact I bet it would get me in trouble.

Corners surely are fun, now I am thinking it is time to consider a front sway bar, I have one but have not restored it so need all new attaching stuff. The bits are available from Moss, something to think about.

Can you tell I had a good time.

count your LBC blessings...round here I go through my ritual November bedding down of the BRITISH/GERMAN BABES. First snow (this year the 1st week of December) usually is here to stay on my grounds and county roads well into March...bout the best I get is [pulling the covers back and moving the battery charger around....they appreciate the visits though!!!..

HaPpY NeW YeArs..back at ya!!!

I agree with Kerry as well. If you have a bare steel tank, you may consider filling it up to the top. The more air is in the tank, the more opportunity there is for rust to form.

Tony, don't make me send you pictures of driving in the snow! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Were my tank bare metal, I'd agree with you guys...but the first thing I do to any tank on one of my cars is have it cleaned & chemically lined so the interior is protected against rust....don't know if its bad to leave them emty (I usually do over our short winters - 2 months at most) - after fogging carbs...but, what the heck! I've not fogged the carbs yet....Tomorrow I'll get her out again & fill the tank, weather's supposed to cooperate but will be a bit colder, in 30's!

I plan on trying to give snow driving a whirl but only in the roadster for now.

Tony, a lined tank is fine. As for the drives, well, I can't whine... went for a quick top-down run to the local Quik-Rip in 80*F+ this afternoon. Next few days promise to be a bit brisk but nowhere near what most are suffering.

Happy New Year!!!

Please keep safe and warm, th' bunch o' ya! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/savewave.gif

I'm planning a New Years Day ride tomorrow in the MGB. Sunny, but cold here for New years Day.

We also have a drive planned. It's only rained a couple times here in the past 100 years on January 1st, so historically it's a great day to plan a winter drive. Looks like it will be sunny, cool and a bit windy for us tomorrow.

60's and sunny....couldn't possibly think of leaving that baby in the garage. It was chilly with the top down, but I LOVE IT! Probably take him out once more tomorrow for the 1st drive of 08.

Have a safe and happy new year guys!

enough..enough already...or I'm gonna have a Tony moment!!!.
High is 13...yes 13 degrees tomorrow and as I said the snows going no where till spring. At 13 degrees my gals won't even get a battery charger visit on New Years day!!!

I may have to get up earlier than planned tomarrow. The local twisties are a pita to get to thanks to the rose parade and rose bowl not to mention just trying to get around town on the 31st and 1st.

...and that cruel Pasadena weather, Stew. Real hardship, wot wif havin' to travel all that way off'n th' beaten path. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

FWIW, Dad had the MGB out on Christmas Eve, to run over to work and tell me our plans had changed a bit. Cold, but dry. Car started right up, and I don't think he's had it out since sometime before Thanksgiving. Too bad many people (not the beleivers here, though!) don't beleieve me when I say that.

We're getting a good snow today. I'm housesitting the Parent's pad, so I didn't bother to make New Years plans, so the dog and I are enjoying a couple of Margaritas and an episode of Mythbusters.

Got to use the fancy schmancy snowblower too. Woo!

-Wm.
