I heard it is not legal to reproduce the plaques, but then, it is your car, right?
I would take the original one, paint it black, then polish the paint off the top of the numbers and lettering, rather than going through the trouble of trying to punch numbers and letters on a new plaque.

Yes, most every vehicle that I restore gets a new tag. I always include the original with the keys and other important items not be lost. Be sure to use the a piece of wood as a "backer" when you punch the letters/number so as not to distort the tag.

Hi,
Do you have any recomendations regarding font and size of letters? Is there a standard that Jaguar used for this series 1 XJ?
I'm considering the purchase of a letter punch set and whant to be as correct as possible when it comes to replacing this ID plate.

SIDE NOTE:
We displayed the Car at the annual Keith McCormick Classic car auction and show Saturday in Palm Springs CA. We where amazed that we where the only Jaguar XJ6 Sedan. It generated quite a bit of interest.

The stamps that I use are made by Blue Point. You can purchase them off of the Snap On truck. Take you old plate with you when you purchase, as they are available in two sizes.
