Watched the local TV news today - I found out that the
California Mille was here last night.I can't believe that
it's May already.
Tonight they'll be staying at the Little River Inn,in
Little River,CA.It's South of Fort Bragg, on HWY 1.
They have a website - https://www.CaliforniaMille.com.
Cool cars,cool roads....Bummer,Bummer,Bummer.

Umm, I thought Fort Bragg was in North Carolina? (My Dad was stationed there). Is there another Ft Bragg in CA?

Yes,It's on the Northern California Coast (near the
North end of Highway 1).The town of Mendocino is South of
there where they filmed "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!","The Summer of '42",& many others.

- Doug

Hmmm!! And I thought they filmed "the Russians are coming, etc." in New England??

Well, you'd both be right. For those that crave trivia, here is a list where the movie was shot. IMDB

Fort Bragg CA (like many things in Northern California) don't look like what typically comes to mind when thinking of California coast lines. It is (or was) a fishing village that does look very New England like. There is also a restaurant there right on the docks that has (or had) really good clam chowder. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif Another unexpected similarity to New England.

They did filming for "Murder,She Wrote" there
also (at least some of the scenes),& I almost
forgot,"Forever Young" was filmed just South of
there,in Point Arena.
The Mille stopped in Ferndale (about 20 miles
South of Eureka). It has a lot of Victorian homes
("Outbreak",& "The Majestic" were both filmed there).
From there, they went to Petrolia (the first place oil
was discovered in California). This area is also known
as the "Lost Coast",because it's so isolated.You've
probably seen many of the car commercials that were
filmed on this road.

Ft Bragg was named for a Union General and was almost changed in the 1860's because the General went to the South during the Civil War. There are several books that tell about movies filmed in that area. The bookmobile was asked to move two weeks ago (in Comptche) because we were in the background of a movie set. We got to eat with the crew. The movie is Pighunt (a psyco thriller). I saw several of the cars going north.
