From the comments I see on this and the TR6 Forum, it seems like a lot of people do keep up with what's listed on eBay whether they admit to be buyers or sellers or not.
I've sold a lot of TR6 parts on eBay and to my knowledge only one Forum member has bought from me..There is a big market out there that do not participate in these Forums, I meet TR6 owners at car shows and even the 6-Pack sponsored TRials that never go to the Forums much less see the classixfied sections of the Forums.
They have just as much need for used parts as anyone of us who participate in Forums and I'm sure they appreciate being able to buy good serviceable parts at a fraction of the price of new. I know I do.
 
Yep, love it or hate it, I still contend its the main selling area for used parts for our cars. As a buyer I don't think there is much risk other than inconvenience. As a seller, you need to be careful.
 
I use ebay and am thankfull to those who list small parts,helping me piece together progects.
I have been active in the antique motorcycle hobby over the last 35 years or so,only getting back into Triumphs last year,but the the communities are very similar.
The only negative from ebay that I have seen is its affect on the swap meets.Years ago meets were the primary marketplace for parts vendors/buyers These days lots of vendors/buyers just stay home and buy/sell on ebay.
Not sure if this is true for the British car meets,but I suspect it is.

Swap meet ? I can't say I've ever been to one. I'm not sure they have those anywhere nearby. On the other hand ebay is right here on my computer 24/7/365.
 
Well I do think ebay has had an impact on places like Carlisle. But none are near me either and the local junkyard doesn't exist anymore so ebay is my hunting ground.
 
I certainly agree that EBay is a great resource for procuring some parts. No doubt, I will be watching and buying as need be because it seems to be the case that unfortunately, the days of swap meets where you might find some of these part are mostly gone.

But as I said when I started all of this with my rant arising out of utter frustration, it just won't be my parts that are listed anymore. I will not be a seller! It’s too bad that's the case because I suspect someone somewhere has a need (or at least interest) in some of the parts that I have, but it’s just not worth my time, effort, and mental health to deal with what turn out in some cases to be really petty, impatient, unreasonable and unthankful people, considering all that goes into selling some Brit parts. Just to sell a part, I have to craft an ad, find a box, pack it, label it, tape it, take it to the PO, stand in line, drive home - all for $20 (minus the cost of tape, gas, and fees that now even seem to include a percentage based upon the shipping)! Only to then to get nasty emails, threats of "reporting" me, emails from EBay about a claim, etc. I obviously needed to get a real life before I came to the concluson to stop selling.

Makes me wonder what direction this "hobby" is going in. It might just end up that the only sellers are a group of less than credible people and dealers who are willing to deal with this aggravation for a quick dollar, and that’s a shame.
 
Wow, and I thought I was the only one who didn't like Ebay. I have family members who are addicted to it, but I never cared for it from the first time I tried it. Not to say I don't use it...sometimes you have no choice with hard to find parts.

With Ebay you loose the interpersonal clues. And, since you never make a connection with the other person, you get that "road rage" syndrome, where everyone acts in ways they would never act if they had to look the other person in the eye.

For getting rid of parts I prefer Craigs List. (which has it's issues too) Something about that person to person contact. I can usually tell by the first sentence whether someone is going to be trustworthy. If they open with "How low will you take", or "will you take a trade", you immediately know nothing good will come of the transaction.

Well I never thought asking for bottom line on price,or if intrest in trades was a red flag for anybody ,but I guess some people just dont like the horsetrading that some actually enjoy.
Personally,I dont want people I never met coming to my house to pick up parts.
I dont have to worry about being home when they are supposed to come,or security issues.
I think the way the hobby is most likely to go is where I think it is now.Vast majority decent honest people using new technologies for mutual benefit.

Ebay / Flea bay one in the same

Some people and I use that word loosely

don't deserve hobbies, as I despise these "cheapo" people

I'm not stereotyping but

That is my opinion and this is still America I think.

Only when it is the opening line...before they ask condition or anything else. The horse trading is the best part...
 
It's just a matter of tact. Some people have it some don't, some have learned the fine art of dickering for a price and some never will.
If I want to sell something, it's usually because I want or need the money. I'll put up with a little bit out of my comfort zone, just like I did at my job, before I retired, in order to achieve my objective..get paid.
I can be thin skinned and want everything my way or the highway, but a lot of times it's just cutting off my nose to spite my face..lose lose.
 
sometimes I would rather throw the part in the recycle bin than go thru the hassel of Ebay. like right now I have a set of new valves, springs, hardened seats, and seal that I need to put on ebay, just have not taken the time to do it, also a timing chain, all for a TR6 engine,

It appears the EBay buyer in fact tried to give me negative feedback, but EBay wouldn't let him. He must be a miserable person. Here is what EBay sent me:
