Hypothetical Crash Test

I did a hypothetical crash test between my 1976 Midget and my 1999 F150. The truck is 2 wheel drive and not modified in any way.

If my Midget rear ended my truck, there is about 2 inches between the top of the protruding section of the bumper and the bottom of my F150s bumper. In such a case, the headlights would probably take the initial brunt of any contact. On the other side, if my F150 rear ended my Midget, there is about 3 inches between the top of my Midget bumper and the bottom of the metal part of the truck's bumper. I'm not counting the plastic spoiler on the truck, of course. Also, I'll point out that these rubber bumper midgets were supposedly raised a little to meet safety requirements. Course, that was before really big trucks became as common place as they are now.

My conclusion, don't get in an accident. Not quite as dangerous as my motorcycle, but not much better either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Got run over by a Toyota Corolla in my 73 Midget. Darned thing came right up ont my hood. I don't know about 76's or 78's but the steering wheel in a 1973 is a dangerous thing. My mechanic was surprised mine did not break loose and spear me in the chest.

In an old MG magazine I read about a MG getting rear ended and pushed into the car infront of it went under. It left the passenger compartment 6"deep from the dash to where the top would rest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

You have a firm grasp of the obvious. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I honestly think that my ride-on mower would come out on top against my midget in an accident!

The things we think about when we are bored! Honestly, I once lost the brakes on my 67 sprite and darn near took out a parking lot cement stop. Cost to get the brakes back in almost working condition was almost $900. I was young and broke at the time. next time around I'll make sure its done right. Hopefully traffic will be light on Sunday mornings!

Don't knock these little cars. They are surprisingly tough.
My wife was rear ended my a Toyota, other than a crumpled rear 1/4 panel and a flat, the car wasn't too bad. The Toyota was totaled and looked like someone took a can opener to it.
I also smacked a concrete divider on a rally, OK it was only a 10" concrete curb thing but it didn't move. I did crumple the nose on the bugeye but that was to be expected.
I also bought a Midget where a large tree fell on it. I managed to drive it as it was all smashed but still in drivable condition (not exactly street legal)

They were made with some metal, you can sit on almost any part of the car, try that on anything new today.

Sure a head on with a Chevy Subdivision is gonna put the steering shaft thru your heart while the Chevy driver feels a bump under his truck so be careful out there and keep an eye on THE OTHER GUY!
