Ain't but a big blow just now. Hasn't amped to "hurricane" status yet. HUNKER DOWN!!!

This time of year always keeps me on my toes (coastal North Carolina native).

The models I just ran (NAM is too near) but GFS is more concerned with Later next week, like Friday the 24th.
Please, this IS A MODEL.
Anyway, it's predicting a Low pressure slightly deeper than 992mb, which to all intents and purposes is TS / CAT1 strength. Fluctuating along the path from the Mid-Atlantic to the GOM between a cat 1 and maybe a weak 2.
This is 10 days away, and a lot can happen, even nothing, but there is a bit of agreement in the models to suggest a Low will move through.
Have fun.

Well as you say Barry,it is a model. We just got hit by a whopper of a thunderstorm.Lasted about twenty minutes,2" of rain and wind gusts strong enough to knock limbs off the trees. The yard is like a swamp and is covered in debris.
Ah well,at least it's cooled down some. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

An opp to blow th' hatches an' fire up th' fans!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I'll be watching in Charleston, South Carolina area.

Tinster....batten down the hatches...at least here in the midwest we can get outta the way of a Tornado!!!

Dale,

The boat will float. Tie down Amos formerly known as Crypty the escape artist and hold on.

Hope it misses ya!

Hawaii's gonna get beat up also.

This morning's update looks like Dean center eye
will pass south of us on Sunday. Dean is still
pretty far out so things could change.

This morning they are predicting we will get 90 mph
winds and a good drenching with local flooding.

Personally, I think Dean will take an even further
southern track and we might get nothing at all. Then
I could go tarpon fishing, which is a great deal more
fun than sitting thru a hurricane at 2:00 AM without
electricity or water.

You beat me to it. The models all have it generally going south, the latest official forecast has it hitting Jamaica or Cuba as a cat-3... of course at 11am things could change again.

If it goes that far south and builds to a Cat-3 it could come to us for a visit. Ooof.

And Tropical Depression 5 has just formed in the Gulf, expected to strengthen to TS and harass Galveston by late tomorrow. Like Southern Texas needs more rain.....
'Tis the season.

& the one off Hawaii just fizzled out....

I'm really hoping that Dean stays away from Fl. I really don't want to spend a week or so without AC and TV. Hmm, if that did happen, it would give me more time to work on the B'. Ah, nevermind, hopefully the storm just goes away.

By all rights, Dean should have clobbered us.
It seems there is a strange, huge high pressure
wave pushing down from the mid-Atlantic states.
This high pressure is holding Dean from a normal
NNW track.

Haven't been keeping up with east coast stuff.
What high pressure is happening in the mid-Atlantic
states. Normal dog days of August? Or something worse.

I really dreaded August when we lived in MD.
Much cooler here in the tropics!

105* with 95% humidity. Horrible.

Yeah, but it doesn't last all that long. A couple of months and they're out of it. If weather were the only factor I'd move back to Virginia in a heartbeat.
