Humming Bird Feeder

Up early this morning, grazing for sumpt'in to eat. Made a bowl of Kashi cereal and blue milk. Kashi tastes like bird seed.

Decided to make up some humming bird juice for the patio feeder. Dissolved a bunch of sugar into some boiling water. The wife chided me for putting way too much sugar in the water; said it would give the humming birds diabetes. So I dissolved one of my Glucophages in it.

Did I do good?

I miss my Cocoa Puffs.

Hehehe, Don't think it will hurt 'em! Reminds me of a timely joke: My brother got me Mum a bird-feeder for Mother's Day, so I got her something to go with it...

...a BB gun!!

As much as I like Hummingbirds, That got a chuckle out of me Mike.

I put out a feeder when we go camping in the Motorhome. Most times it is overlaoaded with the critters. Every color combination you can imagine. Quite entertaining to watch them compete for a drink.

Start shooting at them with a bb gun ....... the other campers in the area would surly beat me up

I find it is much more challenging to try and catch them with a pair of chopsticks!!

Jerri & I were having brunch out on the screened dining porch when we saw a humminbird land on a tree limb! First time I've ever seen that - guess life is over!

Ah, the Sweet Bird Of Youth has lighted. Guess you've seen and done it all, eh Tony. Somehow I think not.....

I have seen em land once in a while, usualy it is one of the dominant colored ones. It will land on a branch and wait for any other hummingbirds to approach the feeder then fly over and chase them away as if guarding it`s territory.
Like it does him any good, there are literaly hundreds flying around where I go camping!
Sometimes the others will land too, just to rest a spell it seems. I`v never seen one stay put, usualy they are up and going again in less than a minute.

One interesting thing i`v noticed, there are more than one species, some have longer beaks than others and slightly larger bodies. I call them the meanies cause they usualy do the chasing.

Darn, I guess it’s time to cash in my chips. I see it multiple times a day at our feeders.

Yup, that’s exactly what they’re doing. They can be fiercely territorial little beasts.

I did read/hear that somewhere once about mixtures over about 4:1 water to sugar (by volume) but I when tried to find it again I couldn’t.

Moot point though, they really seem to love juice at about 6:1 anyway.

PC.

I once saw a hummingbird resting on a treebranch while I was at the park taking photos about 6 years ago. I wasn't quite sure what it was until I got too close for it's comfort, and it flew away. Worst part is I was so enthralled by seeing a still hummingbird, I forgot to take a picture of it. :wall:

Definately a neat experience though. First and only time I've seen one not-moving.
