Hubcap colour?

What is the correct colour for the hub caps on a '71 TR6? Black or silver? Mine are silver, but I'm under the impression they should be black.
 
I agree with Casey, silver started in 73. That said, I prefer silver to black regardless of the year...

New ones can be had for about $15 each, or rattle can for plastic.
 
Use the same silver paint you use on the wheels. I agree silver looks better on my 72. If originality is king , go black.
 
I think I will spray them black, as they are looking a bit worn and tatty anyway.

Will Gloss Black do the trick, or would flat or satin look better?
 
I would do the satin, but hey, paint is cheap, buy one can of each test spray then decide.
 
From William Kimberley's book 'TR6', CP series cars had satin black caps while CR series cars had satin silver. From the photos, it looks like the silver caps matched the wheel silver.

Thanks Craig ... I'll go with black.

I tried a coat of Duplicolor "Light Slate", and note that it is a very good match for the original silver colour of the hub caps.

also interesting stats from William Kimberley's book is that 'a total of 13,912 PI TR6's were manufactured, most by Coventry with early cars as Completely Knocked Down kits made in Belgium (he doesn't give numbers). A total of 8370 PI's sold in UK, 5500 exported to Europe and Australia.'
He also mentions that the CP PI series is quoted at 150bhp and the CR PI series at 125bhp. Apparently both PI models had the same hp, the CP was measured in SAE while the CR used DIN.

Mine is a CP made in Belgium from a knock down kit. It was originally a PI with Overdrive, but now has the engine and head from a '69 US model TR6, and no OD (shortly to be rectified).
