HS-4 Carbs Question

My TF carbs have different bowl tops. One on the front has a tickler pin and the one on the rear has no pin. The carbs are the same number, but the tops are different. I've been told that both carbs originally had the tickler pins. What carb had the bowl tops without them? PJ

Thanks Steve, That is another thing I need to correct. Even though I want the right tops on the bowls, I plan on sealing the pins, possibly from below, so they won't leak if an overflow situation occurred. Probably never happen, but I've heard a couple bad stories from one leaking over a hot exhaust. PJ

It does happen, and probably 50% of the T-Cars I run across have them sealed. Mine aren't sealed because they are actually kind of handy, but I do think about it from time to time.

Is there some type of sheild out there if you decide to keep the ticklers?

Not that I've seen. Problem is, if the float jams and the carb overflows, AND does so bad enough to overwhelm the overflow pipes, the fuel that comes out of the ticklers will run out unpredictably. You would need a shield large enough to catch liquid coming from anywhere on the float bowl and surrounding hardware.

Vince, check and make sure you have the right washers on the bottom of the over flow pipe banjo! I've been told, maybe it was you Steve, that they have a serrated inter edge to let fuel flow through them to the overflow pipes. I have to get a new set, mine are wrong. PJ

I'd say "fluted" instead of serrated I.D. But, yep, it matters.

Yup, your right Doc! Fluted! For some reason the terminology evaded my memory. It's a CRS thing! :jester: PJ
