How's This For a Potential Closed Car Hauler?

TRMark said:
The fellow racing Peyote, the TR3 special, uses a converted Airstream trailer as a hauler. Saw it at Road America.

Bill Babcock hauls Peyote (er... the car) around in Nero, this modified Airstream:

Go ahead with all the jokes...hehehe....right now, it's just TRAILER TRASH....but, if I do decide to buy it, ya'll will all want to hang out in it at shows!!

Yep, Spartan Aircraft did make it....I've ben loking on the internet & have found restored ones going for as high as $45,000!

This is the first thing I thought that it would make a great retro camper. Those are getting more and more scarce.

Tony, that's how I ended up with my Jag! :smile:

Be kind of nice to have a bathroom handy as you get older.

hehehe...you know it, Mark.....we've identified it as a 1946 25' Spartan....d@mn, I was born in 1946!

Now what would be really cool is to haul it around with a 60's Thames 3/4 ton truck.
& a friend just told me about an old '50's "bread box" that's had an upgrade to diesel power that's for sale!

Guess I'll be looking for a 47

Tony;

This is fast becoming a real eye-catching deal.
I want lots of pictures when this one's done!! :winner1:

Actually, right now there are a lot of ready-to-go enclosed car trailers available.
With four wheel brakes, breakaway systems, etc.
I don't have the tow vehicle for one (and I have no intention of buying one), but an enclosed car carrier *is* nice.
Lots of race teams push the car out and relax in them during an event....and I've seen plenty of them with cots/airmattresses, chairs, generators, TVs, etc used for overnight camping at the tracks.

Here's two new ones for decent money. If you look, you can easily find a decent used one for $2500.

~First One~

~Second One~

Be neat if you could customize those to have windows, carpets, cabinets and bunks. Kinda like a rolling car hauler/camper. Haul the car around, drive the car out, move a couple things around and voilĂ - Camper.

They do, I see them at RV shows all the time. A bit pricey though. I thought about building/buying one.

As an aside. I have seen posts on the BCF and other places asking for help locating a car stolen while inside an enclosed trailer. I don't if the target was the trailer or what was inside. A trailer is easy to steal and I think relatively easy to sell and if there is some goodies inside a bonus.

August 18, 1946. Heck, we're the same age, old man!
March 25, 1946....you need to respect your elders, son!

& I'm still thinking & learning about Spartans & trying to figure the cost of a conversion....will probably not be financially feasible even though it would get as much attention at shows as the cars!

Cor!!! Nice to be the baby in a crowd of war-babies for once!! :devilgrin: (Sept. 18 '47)

Mike;
I was born in 1950!

Who are all these old guys we been hanging out with?
Sheesh, I guess they all look the same! :laugh:

Sometimes one sees something that strikes a chord, this airstream conversion is haunting me and I'm afraid I'll have to act on it. Frustrating.....not something I really need but.....

Tony,
I don't think it would be that bad if you do all of the work yourself and not looking for a 'concours' interior.
The key would be an inexpensive but basically sound shell/frame.
