How would you blow $1 million on cars?

How would I spend it? Quickly! Funny your friend would buy that Bugatti because that very car would probably be on my list as well.

I think I'd have a huge quantity of stuff. Like another Spitfire, Jensen Healey, Tatra T87, Corvair Corsa, Lotus Seven, Elan, Elise, early RX-7, Jowett Javalin, maybe a new Corvette, etc, etc. I'd also need another million to buy a garage big enough to house them all!

I think I went over the million with my list.
Bruce

My first purchase would be a few, perfect, LBCs. The very first would be a TR-5. After driving those around for awhile, I'm sure a couple of Porsches would be ordered.

LBCs first for me!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

First a garage to keep the cars we got now! Then a couple corvette's(C5, C3, C1, and maybe a C2) an EType, a 89 Camaro Iroc-Z Convertible, and then a couple triumphs(tr3, tr6) and lastly a couple more MG's to finish the collection(TD, TF, Chrome bumper B, MGC, MGBGT) Oh and a 87 Buick GNX....there are many more but this would have to be the top part of my list

I would probably own all the '65 to '73 Lotus models, Twincam Europa, Plus 2, Elan Sprint, and the Seven I already have. Lets see, that leaves some $950000. What to look for next. Lamborghini 3500 GT for an italian exotic (I remember a gorgeous one offered to me for 10 grand in the 80's). $25 grand for a Vanagon Syncro Westfalia in perfect shape with Subaru power.

Gee, I don't really need much more. An Elise would be nice.

I guess I do't really want any more. I could use a tow vehicle, but hate driving vehicles that can tow.

Man, where to start. The two top dollar cars I would want would be an original Ford GT40, or a 59 Ferrari 250 GT California. Both are easily over 1 mill now, so that might not be to fun, blowing the whole wad on one car.

If I were to go the cheaper road and get more cars, a 67 Ferrari 275 GTB4, a 73 Ferrari 365 GTS4, a 67 Shelby Mustang GT500, a 71 Mustang Boss 351, a 67 427 Vette, a late series 1 E-type coupe, a Maserati Ghibli spyder, a Shelby Cobra kit that I'd build myself with a 427 side oiler, a new Viper competition coupe, a Ferrari 575M, the list goes on and on...

I guess I could find plenty to spend my mil on, but maybe my humble beginnings would lure me to fewer of the exotics and more of the classic types-- Nice LBC's (restore my TR3 to near concours, a jag, AH 3000, MGTF), a 911 and 356b porsche, Ford Cobra, Morris minor "woody", and a coupla' old VW products. I think I could have a good time with those!

Duesenberg SSJ. I think we need to up the limit though, cause I'm not sure I could even afford that with just a million.

First, my dream car--a genuine '65 289 Shelby Cobra in American racing white and blue ($500,000). Then, a nicely restored Series 1 E-Type roadster--in British racing green with tan interior, of course ($150,000). Lastly, a 100-point, red on red '62 FI 327 Corvette ($150,000), as a summer daily driver. Then I would need to save enough of the $1 mill to pay for a new 100-point restoration if I ever sold it (another $100,000).

Let's see, that leaves enough money for. . . the restomod on the '66 Mustang convertible. . . an Edelbrock multipoint fuel injection system for the TR8. . . paying Haggerty for all that collector car insurance for just one year. . . and, with premium gas at $2.25 a gallon, paying for fuel for driving the Corvette to work for about one summer. Well, there went the $1 million! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Must be nice, that's what the cheap stuff costs here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

An original 427 Cobra and a Mercedes Benz 300SL GullWing Coupe - the 2 cars I've lusted after since I was 13 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Hmmmm, may have to pony up a bit of my own money for them!

How many Morris Minors could I buy with that much money? Maybe a Lark convertible... a DKW, SAAB two stroke, a FIAT 600, 850, 124 coupe, a Simca 1204, a Volvo Amazon, I think it is called... the list goes on... T.T.

I had two 850 spyders. You'd have to pay me to take another one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif
16k miles and the timing chain jumped (interferance fit). And if you diden't lube the front end every 800 miles it would start to tighten up.
AND, you wanna talk about body rot....
Ah... but they were a neat little car.
That confirms it, I'm a sucker for a little convertable.

Lets see 1 Mil... MGTC, XK120roadster, mid 60s E type, porsche 356b coupe, TR2 long door, series II Land Rover, flat fender willys jeep, stock ford model A, 32 ford roadster flathead v8 rat rod, And probably some misc. fun stuff like the Morris Minor, and a (classic)Mini Oh yea and a VW Thing, Wesfailia van, and a Bug. Hows that for a bunch of oddballs.

I think my top 3 cars (though exceeding the mil) have already been represented here. Gullwing Mercedes 300SL, 66 Shelby GT350 (although I would probably rather buy a plain-jane fastback and make the mods myself, so that probably saves on that budget) and of course a 427 Shelby Cobra. I could live with a replica Cobra as well and besides, my midget already provides me with a fun british-styled roadster. Still, I don't know of too many replacements or budget models of a Gullwing Benz.

Where to start? I've been playing a lot of Gran Turismo 4 lately, so I have vintage Japanese cars on the brain....so a Datsun 2000 roadster would have to be on the list, as would a 240Z. I also like the Mazda Cosmo 110A, and a later Datsun 510 two door....an early RX-7 and a Toyota 2000GT would be a good start. Hmm....a Lotus Elan roadster, a '65 Mustang GT fastback, and maybe the requisite bits to build a highboy Deuce roadster. The leftover cash could start the hot rod project.

Or....

I wonder if Nick Mason would be interested in selling his 250GTO?

Or...

How much would a vintage Bentley go for?

Or...

....oh my the possibilities....

You'd be suprised how cheap you can pick up a 50s Bently/Rolls. Clean drivers can be found for WELL under 10k
