Hi Folks,

i bought a '73 TR6. Overall nice car. Just 1 problem; I can't open the boot lid!!! The key goes in just fine & turns the tumblers but will not release the boot lid!?!? I got a "Locksmith" to look at it & he couldn't make it work!?!? He said there's something missing in the lock mechanism.

How can I open the "Boot Lid" without damaging it?? I don't care about the lock itself.

Thanx in advance,

Russ

Uhhh.... You have to PUSH the lock in to release the lock and open the boot.

Yeah, are you pushing the button in and lifting Russ?

Cheers
Tush

Duh, Yes to pushing & lifting!

Russ, I think this is what they call between a rock and a hard place. I've included a couple of pictures. The latch has to move to the rear to release. It might be that the spring has broke which would keep the latch from coming back. Unless somebody else comes up with a different idea, you might try this. Drill a small hole above the button release angled upward toward the latch. Bend a short hook on a wire such as they use on model planes and see if you can't hook the latch and pull it back. If it works, all you would have to fix is the small hole. IMG_0085.jpgIMG_0086.jpgI should probably add that my lock also quite working, the key just went around but wouldn't lock or unlock the lid. But it would still open by pressing the button. After seeing how rusty the spring was I'm going to replace it before I have the same issue.

Your right Richard.

Yep easyrider. Darn near jumping up & down on the lid while pushing the button in!!

Not a bad idea Terry. I basically knew that I had to get that "Hook" portion pushed back but just had no idea how!?!

I'm out of town & will be back tomorrow. I'll see what your suggestion does Terry.

Any other ideas??

Thx, Russ

PS: I have a "Wanted" ad posted for a "Luggage Rack".

Would someone please post a pic of the "Striker" that's mounted on the "Boot Lid". I'm only "Guessing" that there is a "U" shaped hook that the lock grabs.

What is the "Inside Dimension" between the arms so I may be able to get a "Tool" of somesort in there & push on the lock mechanism.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated as I want to get this Boot Lid open today.

Thanx in advance.

Russ

Hi Folks,

Please dis-regard previous pic request. Found some real good pics online via You Tube.

Thanx again, Russ

Just in case.............
The part attached to the lid isn't U-shaped..it's an "L"

The part on the rear valence looks like this:

Great pics pool boy.

Thanx, Russ
