How to test overdrive throttle switch and need arm

Hi,
I have a throttle swith for my 100-6 overdrive but am not sure how to test. I put the olm meater on and turn the rod. It goes from open to closed but should there be a gradual increase? I also don't have the arm or lever for it. Any ideas where to get?

Hi Chuck,

The throttle switch is just a switch, it should go from closed somewhere about the rest position to open either side of that point. Pretty basic inside, just a cam on the shaft and a set of contacts that are opened whenever the cam is not in the rest position.

Here's mine that I screwdrivered open the other day.

Thanks Andy...based on that, mine seems to work fine. Now if I can just find the arm and linkage that goes on it.

I would appreciate getting the arm. I don't have any pictures showing how the link (rod) attaches from the arm to the throttle linkage. I checked some british car part sites and they have the arm and rod but not the part that connects to the throttle linkage. I will probably buy the aftermarket relay on Ebay. I am trying to gather all the parts now and then will pull the tranny to put in the overdrive mainshaft and install the overdrive. I have a few spare parts too in case you need something. By the link do you mean the rod that goes from the arm to the throttle?

Hey Keoke,
Try driving a Healey here in 110 degrees. Like a sauna...guaranteed to lose a few pounds each outing..I should to do it more often! Of course, it's a dry heat!

Come down to Tucson. In August we do a "Mad Dogs and Englishmen Run" . 100 miles at 100 degrees. This year we had 12 LBCs and they all made it.

Sounds like a fun run. Would like to try that but don't have a trailer so, it would be 100 miles to Tucson, the 100 mile run and 100 miles back to Phoenix. Not sure I would like to do that in August but one never knows.

Ppfffttt!

My Healey was a daily driver for quite a few of the years I lived in Southern Louisiana. Oh sure, we only had 95-105* temperatures in the summer, but it wasn't a dry heat, we were saturated in 100% humidity too.

The linkage is made from 1/8" dia rod about 10.25" long with 90 deg. bends on both ends and a couple of "Z" bends in the middle to allow for clearance of the main throttle rod. On the part of the throttle system that is located above the transmission there is a lever that has a link from it to the main rod that goes from the firewall to the carbs. The throttle switch link attaches to this lever at approximately the same location as the link up to the main rod. Probably clear as mud but I can make you a switch link if you need one.
