How to tell the specific model distributor install

Sorry for being a posting fiend recently - this is much more fun that work and trying to wrap up a couple near term projects....

Anyway - I ordered a replacement rotor for the Bugeye today and of course it isn't even close to fitting. The current one has a lot of play so it needs to go, but I'm not sure (newbie!) how to tell what specific model distributor that I have so I can order the right one. (and distributor, and points etc...)

There are a few different designs of rotors over the years.
As long as the point is opposite the notch, and it's not too long like from a Jag or Healey 6 cyl, it should work.
To make sure, hold them face to face, the rotor points should be reasonably close in length.
I used a Jag rotor once and that will crack a new dizzy cap real quick while self destructing the rotor. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Some humble pie

So lesson learned today - which is that I have SO MUCH to learn still.

When I got the replacement rotor from Moss because it was sized differently I never tried to install in. When I asked my mechanic to help me figure out what proper replacement rotor to order he pointed out the the one I had ordered from Moss was in fact correct and would work.

It just had a longer body aft of the center point but the "business" end was an exact match.

I've been eating a lot of that lately, but getting the car on the road is worth a slice ot two for me. Dizzy is my next adventure (after u-joints and tires,) so I'm paying close attention... I had this notion that a 1275 midget was somewher close to a 1275 mini.
Send another slice to Springfield....

I known several 1275 Spridget owners that do run the 40819 23D4 dizzy used on the Cooper-S Mini. The 23D4 dizzy came on/with my car's engine but at the moment I'm running a Hitachi dizzy and will save the 40189 for a possible future owner of my car.
